The white dial speedmaster just dropped

First, the technical details: The 42 mm stainless-steel watch features inside a Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 movement, the most up-to-date version of the Calibre 321 that astronauts trusted while on the moon. The standard version comes on a vintage-inspired stainless-steel bracelet, but you can upgrade to a black micro-perforated leather strap with red and white stitching or an anti-bacterial rubber strap with a moon-surface pattern on the underside.
All these aspects nod to the Moonwatch’s storied history. While the original 1957 Speedmaster had an easy-to-read black dial with white hands and indexes, Omega has now flipped the script. Here, the white dial is paired with black detailing and applied indexes, and the glossy lacquered finish is the first time such a technique has been used on the Moonwatch’s step dial. Given the pared-down color scheme, the Speedmaster name stands out in red script just under Omega’s logo.
While the white focus allows the watch to act as an inverse of the OG Speedmaster, it also emphasizes the Moonwatch’s space legacy. The model has been officially used by NASA astronauts since 1965, and it was famously the first watch to be worn on the moon. So the black-and-white coloring hints at the spacesuits donned by astronauts, with the red detailing akin to the lines that denote a commander’s rank.

I saw this and it does look beautiful but speedies always feel so large on the wrist. Wish they make this 40mm

That's pretty, I want one.

Why do they call it a speedmaster?
Does it vibrate or something?

If Rolex and Omega reduced the sizes of the Submariner and Speedmaster to 38 or 39mm they would be perfect

I tried on the Tudor 39mm and was just right. I’m a sucker for brand (shoot me) so didn’t purchase but all sports watches being mostly 40+ sucks since it just feels tad big

While slightly different they do make the Speedy Racing AKA reduced that is 39mm. I have a Mark 40 which is a triple Calender and got a perfect one with full kit about 9 years ago for $1250 but Ben Clymer brought them back into the zeitgeist and now they are closer to 3K. You can pick one of the new white Speedy Racing up for maybe $3250. It is an automatic based on the ETA 7750 so a very common and reliable movement.
The proportions are different but it is smaller.

I agree. I've had a reduced for years and love it. Wish they would make them again.

This sounds dumb but I feel if I’m going to fork multiple thousand on a watch I’d like the in house movement vs eta.

I have this watch and love it.
TBH, I thought I was ordering a standard Speedmaster and was surprised / confused when it showed up. Glad I have it now though.
I do want a traditional Speedmaster but just can't justify having two very similar timepieces. At least not at my current income / collection size. Maybe some day...

How tiny is your wrist? I have two subs and a Batman and they are the perfect size

Although not in the same class as the Speedy Pro, for about 1/8th of the cost i really like the new(ish) Bulova Lunar Pilot Blue Panda…. I have the original Lunar Pilot (black dial) that i bought years ago, and it’s held up really well .
Also, the Bulova remains the ONLY privately owned watch that’s ever been on the surface on the moon.. All of the Omegas were government issued and still government owned .

Thought thread was about an old school clothes washer which OT seems to recommend.

The 3861 wears smaller than the 1861 despite the fact that they are both 42 mm watches. The thinner profile makes a noticeable difference on my wrist.
The reduced version or Speedmaster Automatic has serious rotor noise that always seemed to be a huge problem when I owned the watch. Also, the braclet was subpar. I had Jean Rousseau, maker of the Omega cordura nylon straps, make a black cordura nylon strap for use with a deployant clasp to replace the metal bracelet. Even with the strap change, I had an extreme dislike of the Speedmaster reduced. BTW, I still have this specific strap and would be willing to sell if anyone is interested.

The watch looks great but I'm not a great fan of white dials. I rather dark blue or black, especially with a silver casing.

Favorite Speedmaster is the Mitsukoshi (off white/silver)...been looking at the modified/parts built versions for a while and will pull the trigger eventually
