$15 million? Eastern Tennessee. Homestead up to cattle ranch. Extra cash put into safety if you are a prepper.
Easy choice for me.
Texas is just too close to the open border. Northeast is too full of angry people. West coast too full of liberals. Utah is great, but too dry too often.

You're describing Torry, UT.....
I did some climbing outside Torrey back in the day, great crack climbing in Capital Reef NP. The problem with a BFE places like Torrey is raising a family. While you could home school educational opportunities are limited so are friends for your children. Even if you have a Dugger-sized family it is nice for the kids to have lots of friends outside the home to socialize with.

My immediate thought is the Horseshoe Bay area, maybe buy in Escondido. If it weren't for the prevalence of meth parts of East Texas and Eastern Oklahoma would be nice.

Love it and Apalachicola, but it would be a hard place to live full time.

Stay in your country. You have no clue what you are talking about.

We'll have some fun. I compartmentalize threads, for the most part, but you apparently don't.
I don't get what you're taking so personally, I was talking about taxes and tornadoes. But OK.

Can I spend a modest amount on the house and pocket $14.5 million for other things?

Two homes; one in the west coast mountains Yosemite, truckee, some where in NorCal that sits on the trinity, or similar in Montana, Oregon or Idaho area on a good fishing creek or river. Then gotta get your beach house somewhere in nw Florida or all the way south to the keys probably somewhere on key west and as far north as big pine key.
But if I had that kinda money to invest I would get two properties to enjoy my two favorite areas in the world

Already spent two years in Horseshoe Bay Tx..very nice..but I can only eat so much Bluebonnet Cafe pie and Supertaco salsa.
I'd go total cliche nouveau riche..Carmel/Big Sur, Sun Valley/Hailey, Palm Desert/Springs, Lake Las Vegas, Santa Barbara, Sedona, Flagstaff, Jackson Hole, Vancouver, Boulder, Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge, Charleston, Hilton Head, Bar Harbour, Martha's Vineyard, Hamptons, Saratoga, Fisher Island, Key West, etc..
Would either do one beach/one lake/mountains..or one snowbird/one summer home.

Why do I need to spend $15 million on a home. I can be very comfortable with a $600,000 home…

North Baton Rouge is a lovely place to live.

It isn't that I want to live with bears. The places I would want to live with $15M to burn happen to have grizzly bears.

Ocean City Brewing would be the end of me. Hooter Brown FTW

You spend $200,000 on the home, and $14.5M on the land.
