Abnormal amount of mosquitos and mosquito hawks

Has anyone else in the south Louisiana area noticed that the mosquitos and mosquito hawks are absolutely insane right now?
Always bad mosquitos in Louisiana but I just walked outside and almost got carried away. I read an article about the lack of cold this winter causing mosquito numbers to rise and it sure seems to be the case

More concerned about crawfish prices.
ETA: mosquito issue has been discussed at least a dozen times in the last month.

The best way to deal with and prepare for mosquitos is to get your Covid 19 vaccination

I was talking to my dad the other day and he said their neighborhood was overrun. Walking outside requires going through a wall of mosquitos.
They are near the LSU lakes so I was assuming the work being done there made it worse. But maybe not.

Yes.
It’s nuts.
Crane flies too.

Yes they're horrific.
The mosquito hawks are loud and annoying, but at least they don't bite.

Mosquito hawks are properly know as crane flies for future reference. They do not eat mosquitoes.

I live in a place where the mosquitoes can stand flat footed and frick a turkey, invest in a Stihl backpack fogger/mister.

Step 1: buy talstar
Step 2: spray your yard and bushes weekly (not flowers)
Step 3: eliminate any standing water on your property
4 weeks in you’ll see a massive reduction in mosquitos and gnats.
If you can get your neighbors to get onboard 3 months in you’ll hardly have any flying insects to deal with.

I looked that one up wondering if I have ever saw one before and I have. Just didn't know what they were called.

I have no mosquitos. My customers have no mosquitos. My loved ones have no mosquitos.
When it warms a little they all come out at the same time. And they are very hungry. The females want a blood meal.

Where I grew up mosquito hawks were dragonflies and crane flies were, well, crane flies. Calling dragonflies and damselflies mosquito hawks makes a lot more sense because they actually eat mosquitos.
Useless bit of trivia about how to tell dragonflies from damselflies:

It makes me wonder why we do not have more bats

Based on what I've read, it is because of the drought throughout the summer and fall. The eggs just sit there waiting for moisture. Apparently the male eggs are less hardy, so most of what is coming out are female. Ironically, those are the ones that bite.

I’m in Texas and was amazed at the number of mosquito hawks around my house this week.
