Does anyone have any recommendations on a flight schools in the Acadiana area? I found a couple on Google but wanted to see if there were any private pilots that would recommend one over the other and why. Want to do fixed wing if that make a difference.

What are your goals? Are you going career route? Just getting a PPL?

How old are you?

Some extra info would help.

Owens is at Lafayette airport. Got my private ticket there in his Cessna 152. $140/hour is the cheapest around if you can fit in it. Very laid back operation. Good people.

There's also Fly Louisiana at the New Iberia airport. Have taken a few lessons there. Very professional feeling organization and nicely equipped planes.

That's about it unless you wanna join a flight club at Abbeville.

Edit- There's also a new operation at Abbeville called Windsock Aviation. It's also a small Cessna 150.

My roomie at LA Tech did the pilot program there.

But the question is why? A good friend was an AH-64D pilot, and didn't have enough hours to fly dudes to oil rig after 4 years in the Army.

Fixed wing, I've also met old college friends that flew F/A-18s for the USMC, and were couch surfing flying fixed wing freight and making less than $30K a year.

Flying is insane now. When I got my ppl in 2009 a Cessna 152 could be bought for $20k, $50k for a decent 4 place plane. Now 152s are going for nearly 6 figures and anything d decent is over 100k.
Rental rates are so high. I always wanted to go back for my instrument rating. . I haven't PIC a plane in years. So basically I wasted the $12,000 I spent. Probably a lot more now too.

I went to Flight Academy of New Orleans. My instructor had was a 22 year old kid who now flies copters.

Paul's Fly and Die

BTW, I'm a licensed PP and my flight test was the most terrifying thing I've ever done.
