What’s the point of having 7 footers if they can’t block shots or rebound?
Better questions how can you be a 7 footer and not be able to rebound or block shots

Been saying this all year. Will Baker plays like a 6'6 power forward.

next year they have strong looking fella called Robert Miller that has the tools to clean the glass. he likes to play a bit outside tho, so who knows.

maybe search for one blue collar real rebounding force in the portal as well.

We need someone like Andrew Del Piero badly

Tell us how tall you are & we’ll see if you’re even qualified to ask this
Baker is tied with that midget (6’6) Jordan Wright with most rebounds on the team. Not that far ahead of two 6’10 guys Jalen Reed & Derek Fountain.

After the SC win, Jordan Wright explained it perfectly: we have the 21st tallest team but rank 302nd in rebounding. It’s because we’re soft.
Edit: there’s more to it than that also, scheme wise on defense we give up a lot of threes. Those tend to give up long rebounds which can be hard to rebound. We also lack shooting on the offensive end and teams send 3-4 guys to the paint to contest our drive, which ends up with us getting out numbered on the offensive glass.

We’re ranked 9th in SEC in RPG.
We barely got out rebounded by 3 against the 4th best team (Miss State).
We’re a better rebounding team than every team left on the schedule. I guess I don’t get the point of complaining about Baker not being more dominant when we’ve got other big guys contributing too

We’re 3rd in the SEC in 3pt% and have the highest 3pt% for an LSU team since 2009. If anything we don’t shoot enough 3s, we’re 10th in attempts despite being 4th in makes.

Not really. Any 6'6'' guy that doesn't get moved out of playing power forward is probably going to be a tenacious rebounder/defender.

As Al McGuire used to say, they play in a tuxedo.

I’m literally quoting what Jordan said after the game. Jordan Wright saying McMahon said LSU was soft
I think Chest is our best rebounder but he’s redshirted. Fountain is solid too. There have been multiple games where Cook, Hannibal, and Williams who are all 8’’ to 1’ shorter than our bigs out rebounded our big men

Baker has slow feet and terrible hands. Also he is weak for a 7 footer. He can give you some inside baskets and a few 3's but that is about it. If I was Mcmahon I would be looking in portal for a guy who does nothing but rebound and protect the rim. If he gets 4-8 points in a game great. But his main focus would be rebounding and blocks.

I agree, but a lot of lineups McMahon runs really lack shooting. (Or maybe rather those players aren’t allowed to/don’t take those attempts) I wonder if our % would drop any with more volume. Maybe, maybe not.
What I do know is though when our players drive and our big men space out the floor to prepare for a potential drive and kick, 3-4 players from the other team swarm the paint which leads to an easy rebound.

This joke is so old. We’ll finish 9-9 or 10-8 in SEC… “print the shirts!!”
We lost to Nicholls (& got out rebounded) back in November. Appreciate the improvement

I wish Shawn Phillips would have stayed

Ward and Fountain should’ve been starting from day 1.

In response to another (or Jordan Wright) saying they “rank 302nd in rebounding.” There are 350 basketball teams in D1. Maybe they were that low at some point this season, but they’re not that bad.
Acting like it’s just Will Baker’s fault is even more dumb

Most of the time the tallest player is not the best rebounder because attempting to block / alter a shot brings you out of rebounding position. Baker should probably never leave his feet for a block but instead just turn and box out as soon as the shot is in the air.
But rebounding is a team effort. The guards have to crash down on defensive boards and box out. Hannibal is by far the best at this.
