re: Brian Kelly didn't learn his lesson, moving Harold Perkins back to ILB again

Not a fan of this move. I just don't think he's big and strong enough to handle inside. I hope this new staff can turn him into one because he was an absolute disaster last year in the middle. Maybe with some good coaching, something he lacked last year, he can turn into a dominating LB.

He needs to be blitzed from everywhere so OC's have to account for him. Move him around.
Definitely explains his FR phenom season...the element of surprise. As I've said, OC and OL coaches can scheme for him but that assumes they know where he will be lined up. His best usage would be to move him as close to the snap as possible after the OC has called out the blocking patterns. The element of surprise helps offset his ineffectiveness when blocked

There’s a lot of video on him just flat out abusing tackles off the edge with both speed and power. What’s happened is fans began to make excuses to defend House early on last season and those excuses have caught on as evidence or fact. This happens a lot here but you won’t find many examples that support it. Not nearly enough to validate the narrative anyway.

I don’t like the idea, but added to your pile of downvotes because you constantly shitting on BK is tiresome.

I watched the games. What I saw was when a blocker was assigned to block him, he got blocked. I didn't give a shite whether House was fired or not. There was plenty of blame to go around for players and coaches both. Missed tackles are on the players...not House. But the defensive coaches are supposed to make sure players are utilized the best way possible and make adjustments. Perkins' missed tackles are provable...not subjective. LSU missed 12 tackles in the Ole Miss game...Perkins led the way with 6. Look it up! PFF grades players in college football every game. And that isn't the only game Perkins did some bad tackling. Most of it due to lack of strength, not lack of effort. If you think Perkins is remotely strong enough, then glad you aren't part of the LSU fitness staff.

You’re married to a narrative you picked up by reading this board. It’s pointless to discuss this with someone who refuses to acknowledge facts. Good day

It’s spring training. Now is the time to work on position changes.

Oh FFS is “literally” really necessary there? Can’t you just say “is starting…” or “is an NFL starter?

at 220 lbs he was ABUSING LTs with POWER?
I'll give you speed. But not power. No way he pushed a 300lb SEC LT. Maybe a small school guy. maybe

you can downvote all you want. If you say he was a beast at edge, but you cannot quantify that, then I can't take your argument seriously.
He had 4 sacks as a true freshman who didn’t become a regular contributor until halfway through the season.
He had the same number of sacks as a full time starter in his second year in the program.
In his new role last year, he only had 4 more total tackles than he did as a part time contributor as a freshman.

Pretty much said the same thing in part of my post. Perkins' main liability is his inability to shed blockers due to not being strong enough.

Everyone just blindly supporting the coaches but this is a dumb move. Idgaf
He's one of the best pass rushers in the country and now he won't be doing that, solid logic guys.

So you would play him at full time edge?
LBs don't rush the passer anymore?

Lets no forget the work he did with Clark… who is literally starting for the Cowboys.
This x 1000. Baker knows how to coach and develop LBs. what he did with Clark and Baskerville over one season from where they started was extremely impressive. If he wants Perkins inside, then he will know what to do with him there and how to coach him into the role.

59% of his snaps were either in slot coverage or rushing the passer He was basically exactly that.
This is true and I actually liked Perkins in the role and thought he did well in it. And it does fit his body type and athleticism.
That said, I trust Baker to get more out of Perkins and be creative in how he uses him. I have a feeling we will also see him play Edge and “Star” at different times and blitz from different locations, even if most of his snaps are in the middle. That will make it harder for OCs to take him out of a play just by running longer routes on him when he’s in coverage like last year.

I think the answer is pretty obvious;
The coaches want to improve the defense, and they think moving Perkins to ILB will do so. This is the 2nd DC that wants to do that. All this really does is expand his responsibilities, and if they think he's one of their best players, it's normal to do so.

So you would play him at full time edge?
quote:Say there's 60 offensive plays- how many do you think a Mike backer blitzes on? Do you remember when Harold Perkson won us the game vs Arkansas on the edge as a freshman? Do you with he was in coverage vs a TE on those plays instead?
LBs don't rush the passer anymore?
Look we get to see how this works then criticize or praise it
Talk shite if you want to but I saw them use Perkins at Mike vs Florida State last year and it went so awfully bad that they immediately changed him to that strange nickel role and he didn't go back to Mike.
I hope I look like the a-hole but I bet I don't.

he not going be a Mike LB - nobody ever said that anywhere
He's going to be the WLB in a 2LB defense

He made over half those plays spying the QB from a WLB position - same as against Bama - As soon as the QB would looke to scamble he was attacking
