Would a lever action 22 rifle make a good home defense gun?

Opinions?

Good? No. Better than nothing? Yes.
If I have to use a .22 for self defense, it would be a semi auto. Just get rounds on target as fast as possible.

Not sure if serious? Haha
But, popular opinion would tell you no.
Too light of a load, too slow to fire, rifles are hard to maneuver in halls and doorways.
I have a short barreled pump shotgun loaded with buckshot.
Could also use a full sized handgun.. loaded with 9mm at a minimum

12 gauge pump. No real aiming, point and shoot. The shorter the barrel the better for close quarters. Nothing will scare the piss out of an intruder like the sound of someone racking a 12 gauge.

Not true at all. You have to aim with a shotgun.

This is such a fudd trope.

Yep. An 18" 12 ga with #1 buckshot is what sits next to my wife's side of the bed.
I have a handgun, rifle with suppressor and an Estwing double bit axe (I can throw it like a champ if I need to be quiet or not light myself) within arm's reach of my side of the bed.

Plus buckshot is more likely to pass through walls and still have plenty of energy to do damage on the other side. Not that I disagree with shotguns for home defense, but with others in the house better know what’s behind your target.

If you had no other gun it’s better than a butter knife or even a sharp knife.
There are so many better options for home defense at decent price points that unless that your only option I wouldn’t even consider using one.
And anyone who says that all you have to do is point and shoot a shotgun has never shot a shotgun. They don’t fill up halls with BBs unless you live in a jay z size house.

You'd have to pump about 409 rounds in a meth headed rager with a 22 unless you got a head shot

Dang some of you live in some bad neighborhoods!

I guess if the plan is to shoot them to distract them, then beat them to death with it.

A polished greased mp22 AR with a drum mag, suppressor, red dot and strobe light might be the funniest home defense gun I can think of.

Idk, I feel like a vepr loaded with dragon's breath might be scarier.

You sound ready for battle. I always feel plenty well armed with my simple 9mm pistol in my nightstand and then I come across a thread like this

I thought your post was masterful

For the longest time the only firearm I owned was a .22 rifle. I survived.
I have more respect for .22 than most here I think.
