We still over the 2024 cap, but also the only team in the NFL that is already over the 2025 cap lol.
“Of course, the down side of the Saints’ approach is that it always puts them in precarious cap shape at the start of every offseason. Not only are the Saints still over the 2024 cap a couple weeks before the start of the league year, but they’re also the only NFL team that is already over the 2025 salary cap, according to OverTheCap.com.”

Another thread about the salary cap. I think if you guys create another 364 threads in addition to the 9,762 already here, maybe everyone will know you guys' position.

If we trade Latt and have to cut Ram, we're all going to care. Our dead cap on 2025 will be utterly insane.

The salary cap stuff is the only notable thing the Saints have done the past 3 years

At some point, you will realize crying about it daily doesn't change it. Accept it and move on like a big boy.

Thought y’all wanted to tank?
Saints fans are the only fans in the league that expect to make the playoffs in a tanking situation lol.

Free loans, but the issue is the loans are paying dead weight.

I will remain rational and continue to criticize all suboptimal decisionmaking I see, generally.

Explain to me what you think this means to our cap

No?
I wanted us to be middling for 2 years, maybe 3 to clean up our roster and cap.
We have been middling for 3 years with no real future and an even worse cap, instead

Trading Lattimore for a draft pick is an excellent way to start that process

Wouldn’t this be exactly what you and multiple posters on here have been asking to do?
We’d trade a high paid star for picks and start rebuilding.

Correct. The problem is you are not kicking the can in 26-27 year old “2nd” contract players but yet 35 year old players with diminished skills. Then no Drew Brees to cover that up.

None of this matters with Dennis Allen leading the team.

If we are going to keep playing this game with the cap then we need to start acquiring as much draft capital as we can to get cheap, young talent on this team.

We're trading him because of his attitude and I'll be shocked if we get more than a 3rd. That's not a rebuild move.
I was fine with using Latt as a long-term ATM for the most part. Same with Ram. And theoretically, if we have to get rid of both, 2025 would be incredibly terrible but we would, again theoretically, have lots of positive movement on our cap.
The problem is that 2025's dead cap looks so terrible that we will have to do unthinkable things like extend Carr, Hill, Mathieu, etc. Older players we need to be shedding.
An efficient, intelligent cap rebuild would have targeted these older, overpriced assets first in order to keep the Latt and Rams. However, due to our strategy, we may have to do the opposite. I understand Latt and Ram possibly having to be moved isn't due to cap issues, but I specifically brought up this scenario when we signed Carr.

I'm not saying it will happen every year, but if the cap increases 30Mil, it justifies, in their mind, that they are doing ok.

I never wanted to deal Latt. If we did, I'd have wanted to do it when his value was higher. We're selling low due to circumstances.
