They are 18-8 (7-6). Of course they are more than capable of beating LSU. LSU isn't good enough to just go through the motions and beat ANY SEC opponent.

Miss St beat Auburn and Tennessee
The also lost to Georgia Tech (11-16 record) and Southern (yes, that Southern).
State has played well at home. But they have only won one game on the road this season...at Missouri. They are coming into the game "hot" on a 4 game winning streak. But in that winning streak they played 3 of the 4 games at home. And outside of Ole Miss it was against 3 of the worst teams in the SEC (Arkansas, Georgia, Mizzou).
State is firmly in that middle of the SEC pack range with teams not named Auburn, Tennessee, or Alabama. LSU has competed with every team in that range and I expect the same tonight. In fact (an I may have to eat my words tomorrow), I wouldn't be all that surprised to see LSU get a relatively convincing win (5-10 points). As noted, State hasn't been good on the road at all. For their part, LSU has to be playing with the most confidence they've had all season. And after several close games this year they may be due for a more "comfortable" victory. State is a good team. But I don't think they have the offense to run away and hide from LSU (at least for a portion of the game) like Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, and even Florida have (all in the top 25 of offensive efficiency). State is going to want to make this a game like the home Texas A&M game. A start/stop slog where they beat up LSU inside (particularly on the offensive glass). LSU wants to run.
For LSU, one big key will be not turning the ball over. When they do that they are a relatively efficient offense in terms of FG%. Helping that recently has been the play of Hannibal. In the last two games he has 20 rebounds, 9 assists, and only 1 turnover. He can't shoot a lick...but he knows it. So he has been doing was he does best. Just playing harder and tougher than everyone else.

Has there been a Jalen Cook update?
Here it is: Trae Hannibal has been really good at running the point lately & our players look like they actually enjoy playing with each other when he’s on the floor.
This might be unfair because I don’t actually know how serious Cook’s injury is — but I am getting bigtime Eli Ricks / Kayshon Boutte vibes off that kid.
Zero sources but gut feeling is won’t be surprised if we don’t see him again.

LSU wins by double digits tonight. 77-67.

Line now up to 4.5 on FanDuel and +146 on ML. Very tempting.
Hopefully the crowd is rocking would be another great win.

quote:4.5 is too much IMO. The line on DK is -3.5, it was -2.5 this morning. MSU is likely a -6.5 -7 point favorite on a neutral court. Assume somewhere between 3 and 5 points to LSU for playing at home and the line should be -4 max to -2.

Or they are watching the money and the sharps take State. Line has moved up. The public and the sharps don’t trust lsu…. Took them with Kentucky, and waiting after under vir, Kentucky and TCU. I believe!!!
Boot up!

This has the makings of a classic LSU basketball let down game so that’s probably about right

This seems to be a similar makeup to the TAMU home game earlier this year. The odds didn’t make sense yet the line kept moving in TAMU favor. I hate to say it but the action here points to a L. Hope we can Buck it.

quote:If I'm not mistaken the UK line moved on betting for UK Wednesday as well. I think UK ended up -6-5 or -7.5 and really should have been -4.5 or -5.

I'm not sure how much confidence I'm putting into the action swing here. I think at one point LSU was 9-14 ATS, and even though we didn't cover against Bama and UT, we were -10 @UF and lost by 2 and outright ML'd USCe and UK at -6.5 each. We have the makings of a different team IMO.

Could the line movement be based on Jalen Cook's status? Still haven't seen anything official but I'd expect him to sit

Jalen Cook is out again for #LSU vs Mississippi State.
Just came out for pregame warmups, once again not dressed out.
Has now missed four of the last five for the Tigers.

I’d prefer Cook playing, but I like Hannibal on their little guard Hubbard

State is a lot like A&M in that the metrics say/think they are better that the record shows. I think the difference tonight will be LSU is more batted tested and cohesive now than in mid-January. And while Hubbard is good for State, he’s not quite a guy who can take over like Taylor for A&M.
I thought McMahon made some curious moves at time with his rotations vs Kentucky (and HE said he didn’t do a great job down the stretch). I feel like this is a game that if Bakers isn’t scoring Dean needs significant minutes to battle inside

You got me brother...I am a HUGE idiot for paying attention to your drivel..I know better than to bet on my own team....

Well that worked out well. I hope you didn’t bet your house

Good thing I use analytics and not emotions to bet

Put 250 on state money line. Just felt right. Baseball fricked me over lately. Back close to even.

Good call. Thought they had found some rhythm. They didn’t. They emptied the tank on Wednesday and let a team who hadn’t played well on the road all season take their fight to them.

I feel like damn near every game I feel better when Dean is in. Stats might not show it, its just a feeling thing.
I will say though that recently Baker's been playing way more physical. He played his tail off against Kentucky.
