“True Detective” has been renewed for Season 5 at HBO. Issa López, the creator of “True Detective: Night Country,” will helm the fifth season under her new overall deal with HBO.

The renewal comes as little surprise, given the success of “Night Country,” which saw Jodie Foster and Kali Reis star in the fourth installment of the HBO anthology series. Per HBO, the season is the most-watched installment of the show to date, with 12.7 million cross platform viewers. The season finale on Feb. 18 was the most-watched episode of the season, drawing 3.2 million viewers across HBO and Max. That represents a 57% increase over the show’s premiere viewership in January.

We should have pirated it instead of streamed it legally.

Told y'all it was going to get renewed. The Tigerdroppings bubble doesn't matter.

I knew it'd get renewed, too many eyeballs watching, I didn't think they'd have her back as showrunner though.

Hopefully we'll dive deeper into the worldwide ring of secretly S.W.A.T. trained minority women posing as housekeepers.

I've watched the first four episodes but really haven't found it all that interesting. Is it worth finishing?

The ratings had to be bolstered by people hate watching them destroy this franchise. That's why I watched. Mop Team 6 must be seen to be believed. You can't fool people twice. If we already know it's going to be absolute shite, we just won't even tune in. I shudder at how bad it's going to be with all the positive feedback this show and it's runners do not deserve in the slightest.

Bets are in, next season will have a Trump figure that gets his comeuppance. Kathy Griffin needed a job anyway.

I finished season 4 up last night. Very dissapointing to say the least. It really could have been good, but they force fed all this suicide and mental health issue crap that was not needed. Had the now stereotypical dose of women beating the crap out of men woke nonsense as well. The band of native Eskimo women that come in and kill all the evil white scientists men (to a screeching eskimo soundtrack) almost made me lol. Really could have been good without all that as I did enjoy other parts of season 4.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Everything looked good about Season 4 until I started actually watching it. Then it quickly unraveled. Strong cast, great setting, a great director on board. But, the writing was just terrible. By the end, I wanted the 6 hours back that I had just wasted.

At the risk of making way too much out of this, it seems to me that giving Lopez another season just screams of everything that's wrong in today's world, where people are rewarded more for being the right gender/color than actually producing a quality product.

Issa Lopez is the Kamala Harris of show runners -- the emptiest of empty suits. All style, no substance.

True Detective Season 5? I'm in.
True Detective Season 5 with Issa Lopez? No thanks.

HBO content is just as shitty as Netflix so it's not surprising they'd renew trash content.
