How many people are really going hungry?
Posted on 2/22/24 at 11:39 am to SlidellCajun
Tired of people constantly taking from the government and don’t contribute a damn thing

We have a lot of low income folks who go hungry.
I've never seen one. Poor people eat so damn much that stats are now faked in surveys:
Q: 'Do you know what food you will eat tomorrow?'
A: 'Not sure.'
Stat: 'Poor person suffering from lack of food.'

What products or services do low income citizens provide to the public that in turn spend money?

Then why is he asking for gov money for crawfish farmers?

Lie.
A minimum $3,500,000 to be picked up by Louisiana taxpayers just to administer the "card" for this.
Look it up.

Medicare is not for low income. It’s for people who paid into the system to receive health care benefits when they turn 65.

I don't have a problem with him turning down this money. It would result in so little per kid that it won't make a difference, and we already have plenty of programs which fight against child hunger.
Him then turning around and asking for federal money for crawfish farmers, though, is insane.
It's not like COVID, which you can reasonably say was not predicted and was made much worse by the government.
This bailout is "needed" because apparently farmers did not protect themselves against a down season caused by weather.
This is just as bad as people who live in South Louisiana, don't havre enough flood or wind insurance, and then go crying to FEMA.
This whole episode proves something I have told y'all for years.
These republicans are not small government, they simply want to spend government money on a different group of people versus who the democrats want to spend money on.

FYI, we get a lot of funds from the feds based on low income needs. Medicare for one. Do you suggest we decline that too?
I'm sorry, what?

You paid welfare for others, and expect welfare from others

Lamdry recently unilaterally declined $71mm in federal funds for low income food programs. No strings attached here.

House Bill 18 was filed Monday, which forces the state to enter the summer EBT program. The councilwoman said, "It would appropriate the match dollars for the summer EBT program, which is anywhere between three and seven million dollars to get roughly 71 million dollars worth of benefits."
No strings attached except for those $3-7 million worth of strings
Did you know about the match requirement and just lie that there were no strings?
Or were you spouting off "no strings attached!" having done zero research?

Medicare is for everyone... very easy to get once you turn 65.

Ehh... lots of people don't really pay anything into the system and get it. Also, how much you paid in has no bearing on the level of benefits you get.
Medicare, like Social Security, is welfare with a dedicated funding source.

As to why Landry would do this on behalf of the state?
He is pushing the productive members of Louisiana society into other states with this move by forcing them to move to other states where they have better assistance programs

Jobs aren't like acorns, you can't just go outside and pick one up off the ground, someone has to actually offer you one. If you're functionally illiterate, you're much less likely to be offered a job.

With no job, you have plenty of time to become literate.

Businesses over people. Got it

Maybe to keep the FedGov out of your business. No money comes without strings attached.

Good! Maybe the price of groceries will go down if there isn't millions of dollars of free money.
