NFL does 14 out of 32 teams
And all 14 of those teams legit can win. We have seen that multiple times

There is roughly 3-5 teams with a legit chance any given year in college football

Calling it now, 3-loss Bama is in.
3 loss lsu was ranked 13 last year

2 losses a big time school is 100% in. 3 losses it’s 50%

Regular season is almost worthless for the top teams now

Hell let’s just end the regular season at Halloween, then have a 68-team tournament like basketball does.

They’re not going to miss out on all that money those ticket sales, concessions, and TV viewership would bring

Same reason why conference championship games won’t be done away

Even tho this is true, I still think byes are stupid in a cfb playoff.

I couldn't disagree more. Byes at least reward the teams who had a special season.

You wait they will expand it to 16 or even 24 before 2026. I don't think the SEC and B1G want to block the others (for anti-trust reasons), I think they will just want as many of their teams in it as possible. That will satisfy everyone. SEC and B1G still get their big TV checks and get 4-6 teams in the playoffs every year. Everyone else still has plenty of spots for their teams too.

Get ready for the 2027 first round game of Ole Miss (6th best SEC) vs. Iowa State (3rd best Big12). Epic stuff!

Everyone needs to ask themselves this: Has any major sport ever reduced their league or playoffs? When they can expand...they expand.

More games = more TV money
That’s all this is. A 6 team playoff with 2 first round byes would have been fine.

14 is dumb - either do 8 or 16 if they need to do more than 4.

In theory yes, but not when the byes are determined by the eye test.

I can hear it now "yeah this team is an undefeated conference champ, but this 2 loss conference champ is clearly the better team, so they should be #4 seed and get the bye"

This is awesome and can’t wait for it to grow to 24. This sport will finally have a legit champion that can hang a meaningful banner. The days of playing a bunch of regional games and being crowned a beauty pageant winner will be over and college football can finally become a legitimate sport.

Sorry, if your team now has to play a series of games against non-regional good teams to hang a banner. Injuries and depth are now gonna play huge roles and lead to many upsets.

I’m starting to think you just like to argue with people for fun on here.

A few weeks ago, I said realistically nobody ranked outside of the top 10 in college football would ever win the natty & you said LSU could’ve won it all this year

So, which is it? 3-5 teams or 12-14?

Lets be honest...

CFB is 15 teams and under. We have a top 25 but its always been 15 teams that matter in any given year.

And the bottom half of those 15 are purely Cinderellas.

It's really 8. At the MAX...still makes the season relevant but gives a little leeway for the underrepresented or non-media darlings. But every year we know who the 4 best teams are...and we'll certainly know it with it 8. 14 is a mockery, devalues the season for profit and just allows the usual suspects more do-overs.

We're gonna have 5 conference champs in, 4 get a bye, 1 will have to play an extra game and risk injury based on the infallible "eye test"

That 5th team should be happy to be invited to the party, a G5 team can never win the championship in this format.

That's going to be every other year now. But, it sort of already was, anyway.

But now you will have the pleasure of seeing some SEC team in the Big House in January. LSU perhaps...oh poor Florida they had such a great year and then they got cold.

Just get rid of the bowls and let the best ranked team host the game. Only the championship game can be neutral. Turn the bowl games into conference championship games. Rose Bowl (B1G), SEC (Sugar), ACC (Orange), and Big 12 (Fiesta or Cotton). Just move them to late November or early December.
