I guess Ole Miss or A$M would have suited him better?

It sucks. But unless you are Dabo it is the field we fight on.

To be fair, Jerry Falwell Jr pumped that university full of GI Bill and Sallie Mae dollars for their online program. Repurpose some of that cash for your NIL program.

LSU Fans: We're very upset that we're not spending NIL dollars in the transfer portal like Ole Miss!!
LSU Fans after Coach claims player got $300K: No way we'd pay that much!!
Who cares what he got. Good for him if that's what he got. This is an example of a guy going into a smaller program, proving himself on a National Level, and getting an opportunity to play in a program that will better showcase/prepare him for the NFL & get some additional compensation while doing it. It's a win for all parties involved, even Liberty gets to point to his success as proof of their development abilities.
He also potentially fills a major need with Lacy the only returning player w/ sizable production/experience. If Daniels works out that provides a huge boost to our offense & shows an example of our coaching staff identifying a player that fills a need and was acquired for a reasonable price. Again, win for all parties involved.

There's an easy fix. Go back to the the sit out when you transfer rule. The only free transfer should be going from Power 5 to lower school or if coach leaves.
This is exactly right. We're in the Wild West of NIL and constant transfers as allowed by the courts. But, have the courts also said that the member institutions of the NCAA have no ability to regulate themselves and create any kind of self-governing rules when it comes to this? Are the NCAA, SEC, B10, etc. lawyers so inept that they cannot develop an argument that allows for NIL and transfer, but with regulations to calm it down a little?
If the only way to have college sports is for it to be this mess, is this the only multi-billion dollar business in America that can exist without the major players being able to agree upon self-regulation and have it stand up in court?

Didn't he commit more than a week after entering? Its not like LSU was calling him to enter the portal.

There's a major lawsuit waiting to happen that goes well beyond title 9.
Can you provide a link to that discussion? I would be interested in reading about it.
The USSC unanimously ruled the NCAA cannot place restrictions on player being compensated for use of their NIL. So even this regulation you suggest NIL is not going to be effected.

Things will either be regulated back down to an ameutuer level or you'll have minor league football and men's basketball for sure.
I think it is entirely plausible a NBA/NFL minor league system could develop similar to MLB (The NBA already somewhat has one in the G-League). But the franchises, particularly football, don't really want it because it is an added expense. Just let the colleges serve as a de facto minor league to develop/weed out the pro prospects on someone else's dime. And here is a little secret. The colleges don't necessarily want it either. The Big 10 and SEC are about to start multi-BILLON dollar media contracts. The value of those contracts start to disappear a bit if all of the best players are going directly to minor leagues. The college players don't really want it because many can make more on NIL than being a minor leaguer.
All of the momentum is pushing towards the major conference teams breaking away from the NCAA and creating their own "league". But like you point out, only football and men's basketball are profitable. So the big question is how do you untangle that fact from title 9? If the schools could pay the just the football and basketball players market value and not have to worry about paying the other athletes equal compensation they likely would have already broken away from the NCAA

The rule change wasn't for fairness anyway. Its was because the NCAA didn't want to deal with waivers.

There will surely be people in here who will come in and expound on the evils of NIL, but what's wrong with paying someone for a service?
The more that money dictates the winners in athletic competitions the less people respect the accomplishment. That's pretty universal. Like the Yankees trying to buy a title vs the royals building a team through their scouting and farm system over years.
This isn't new.
Even the nfl has a salary cap which is one of the primary reasons for its parity and popularity.
All that being said.
Your boring gotcha is noted.

As a coach, I can understand his frustration but everyone is throwing money around at these players, so LSU shouldn't be singled out. Unfortunately, if you're not throwing money around, you're probably losing your best players.

Not for me. It’s all bad.

You don't think money had anything to do with LSU football in 2019?
How about LSU baseball in 2023?
Those titles shouldn't be respected?

If we had 300k to spend on a player then why didn’t we buy a DT?

the car/apartment is believable and may some cash but certainly not what he's speculating. sounds like a bitter bitch his star WR chose a better life for himself.
Yeah, I agree with your assessment. I was thinking more in the range of $65k to $100k. No way did that WRer get $300k. WRers simply aren't that rare...even the very good ones. LSU proves that year after year and will again this season...Daniels not even being included BTW.

Definitely.
Local dealership gives the kid a lease for an NIL deal, car is already used, but kid doesn't care. Kid appears in a television commercial...maybe. Car written off as business expense.
Apartments are plentiful and cheap as hell to a rich NIL supporting booster.

300k
No way he got a lump $300k up front. Maybe signed an NIL contract worth up to $300k over a certain amount of time for whatever services rendered.

Yeah, the obvious end to the "don't sit out a year" transfer rule was Ole Miss a few years back. They gave waivers to the players who wanted to play in a bowl game their next season since Ole Miss would be ineligible (probation) so they "waived" on them. But remarkably Shea Patterson was only a TR SO who could potentially play in a bowl game 2 years later after probation was over. But he wanted to go to Michigan and the NCAA was stuck having to rule on a high profile QB and tell him he couldn't play for Michigan the next season. {crickets on making him sit out a year}. That was the end of the 1 year sit out rule right there.

Why didn’t Liberty offer the gift of eternal life through Jesus?

Yes, NIL as it currently stands is evil, but that's now the standard. As allowed by the NCAA, college football is now a pay for play system. I don't like the current system, but I didn't get a vote. If that's the case, I expect LSU to play the same NIL game as everyone else.
