My company lays off 3x a year every year.
Can you imagine living with that stress?
Count your blessings and quit complaining.

You a slave? If you know they do that why wouldn’t you just move on?

One out weighs the other, you're going to need to decide which one that is for 2024.
Posted on 2/19/24 at 10:36 am to LSUNWO1988
What you need to do is polish your resume and start getting it out there. Even though you made it through this round they already told you it needed justification. You’re next on the chopping block.

They’re not done and peace of mind will be nonexistent now.

The easiest thing to cut is people.
Unfortunately, it's the only thing you can cut most times. You still need the raw materials no matter if they go up in price. I work in pharma and it is a multi year process to get a new raw material supplier approved. Since the area I'm in is OTC, you can't just increase price at the retailer because you risk the customer moving to a cheaper/store brand option.
ETA: We had a lady in our group retire at the end of 2023 with 1 week notice to everyone (other than HR) and I got most of her job responsibilities, without extra pay of course. Just got confirmation that they won't be replacing her, so this is the new norm for me. I either suck it up and deal or find another job (internal or external). In my view, with so much uncertainty this year I'm dealing with it for now.

Thankfully I was not laid off; however, my salary was frozen for a year and not eligible for the yearly bonus. (The rationale there was they wanted to keep me but needed to justify since I make more than the rest of the team)
Get your resume ready and jump ship if a good opprotunity comes along.

Management lies. When they talk about your group, they're lying about your group.

Are you speaking of like excipients suppliers?
I worked in pharma for several years.
Was shocked at the bloat at the major drug companies we supplied.

I really have enjoyed working for this company and they allowed me to move a year back to be closer to family and be a remote employee. Basically my work/life balance is too good for me to want to leave now and i do enjoy the work.

Top 10 predictions for 2024 include.

Look for the headline inflation rate to fall to 2% before the end of the summer, but then turn higher, ending the year around 2.7%.
Core prices — inflation that strips out food and energy costs — will trend down from 4% now to 2.4% toward the end of next year.

I am just saying, things are rocky right now, your silver lining is that you didn't get laid off

Both excipients and APIs. It takes a lot to get them approved.
I started in production making the products, moved to testing raw materials, then lab support, and now in planning some of the production fill lines, so I've seen a few different aspects of the workflow.
You can really only cut people. My company subscribes to the door more with less mentality, so we don't have much bloat unless it is at the corporate level.

I’d get your resume freshened up. You will get that raise and bonus you are missing out on by changing jobs.

Keeping your resume updated is good, but you can't make the assumption that more layoffs are coming
Depending on your industry you are probably smart to assume you can be laid off at any day of your entire career.

I'm strongly reconsidering eliminating your position. Well talk first thing tomorrow.
