It’s a good neighborhood. Mostly older homes tho if that’s a negative. The land sinks more on the other side of W Napoleon. Great location and easy access to the interstate and Airline Hwy

do not buy too close to the apartments around Miley Playground.

If you're referencing the apartments on Eisenhower, those haven't been there in many years. Miley owns the land, and it serves as overflow parking.

To the OP, Airline Park is fine. It's generally an older area, so be careful of cosmetics that cover up dilapidation. Also, it sinks. You'll need to spread mud pretty much every year, and get mud pumped underneath every 2-3 years.

Construction on the streets has been a big hassle for about a year now but they seem to making progress.

Quiet, convenient.

House looks nice. He is a fireman and paramedic on his side gig down there.

Just make sure he gets all of the extra inspections. As others pointed out, older/established neighborhood that has some areas prone to sinking. Check elevations, slope of the house (someone will correct that terminology), plumbing video inspection, termites, I'd do an energy efficiency inspection...

It's an ok place to buy in so far that it is safe.

Much older generation iiving there. Not a lot of kids, and the JP schools outside of magnet schools are not great.

OLDP and St Mary Magdalan have closed in recent years due to lack of students. St Edward is still open.

Also, the homes there are dated... most have not been renovated in 30-40 years.

It really depends where within Airline Park. I grew up off of Lafreniere Street close to Airline Park Elementary and the neighborhood was good. Haven't lived there in many years but some of those flunkies from back in the day are still around, and they are ok folks. But I wouldn't live close to David Drive.

I grew up 1 block from Delta Playground, Green Park Elementary, and Lynn Park Swim Club/Curetons Sports Club (RIP). I vividly remember houses flooding on David Drive and some other streets nearby. Every few years my dad would get a dump truck load or 2 of batture sand (river sand) and fill the sink areas near our house and slab. Due to sinkage and the ground instability, many streets and sidewalks cracked and were a PIA to drive on ... much like uptown New Orleans.

My advice, do extensive research on which areas may be prone to flooding, and confirm if the house they may purchase has had any foundation repair work done. Many houses were elevated a few feet to prevent flooding. Another good area are house near St. Martin's School - Haring, Green Acres, Colony, Maguerite streets

That was "up front"?

I believe I remember at least some calling it Mr Ricks Grocery.

YES!!!
They had amazing connections in the meat business, thus had the best quality and insanely low prices for years until they closed.

airline grocery?

was AG located in the MA Green Shopping Center strip ? I grew up in that area from early 70's to mid 80's , then went to LSU. If we needed something quick, we shopped at Buy-a-Pack. That little area had a pet store, Coopers Bakery (currently still in business in Amite), and Come Back Inn. For big grocery shopping, we went to Schwegmann's on Airline Hwy. My grandparents ran and managed Airline Bowling Alley as that area became real unsafe in the late 80's. Lots of good childhood memories as I never remember a home/car robbery, break-in, "shots fired" or murder. Also had fun times at the OLDP, St. Clement of Rome, and St. Edward fairs and CYO concerts featuring The COLD. Seems like yesterday, sadly 40+ yrs has flown by.

Mr. Ricks originally just started out as a butcher so that makes sense.

The area looks like lower middle class Metairie in an undesirable area of Metairie

If you’re ok with that, fine

Only benefit is its close to the airport. Almost too close.

It was, actually, Airline Park Grocery, and it was in the Airline Park Shopping Center which is still there at the corner of Airline Highway and Airline Park Boulevard. There used to be a K&B on one corner of AP. and Cathay Inn across the street. The name of Cathay Inn has changed, but it's pretty much the same place.

Airline Park Supermarket is now a Save-A-Lot grocery store in the western half of the shopping center, right past Dairy Queen.

M.A. Green is much farther west on Airline Highway. I lived way out that way for a year or so after I was first married. That was a little bit, not much, down-scale from Airline Park, but it was still a quiet neighborhood. We used to shop at the Schwegmann's and could get there without using Airline OR West Metairie. I always liked that about that neighborhood.

I STILL love Come Back Inn to this day 30 years later.

My boys played ball at Mike Miley, so that's part of my familiarity of Airline Park.

I grew up in that area during the same time. My friend and I did yard work for our neighbor. She paid us by bringing us to Big Scoop Ice Cream. Also remember Coopers would make doughnuts the day after Tulane/LSU in the winning teams colors. We were lower middle class but didn’t realize it. Lots of good times in that neighborhood.

Yeah, now it's Cathay Imperial:

Place has been there forever, but I've never been in. I have this feeling that if I went in it'd be like stepping in a time warp to 1967 or something...

Had some crazy sinking issues on David Dr. I always wondered if it was because of the canal right there.

If you say lower middle class because 80% of the residents are retired and living on a fixed income in a fully paid for home that hasn't been updated in 30 years... yes you are right.

But it's not unsafe. It's more boring than unsafe.
