Love the guy. Shaq was the reason I stopped watching basketball. In college the refs would call a foul on him for anything. There could be no one within 5 feet of him and they'd still call a foul. That's when I realized basketball was t-totally scripted however the paid off referee wanted it to be. Probably haven't watched a full game since.

one thing I noticed over the years about Shaq is that he often dunks with a fair bit of force

I’ve seen a lot of dumb comments on the rant, and this one doesn’t disappoint.

Thanks for link! It definitely proved Shaq could dribble, which is not something you see from a 7-footer!

I miss basketball in the 90s with Shaq, Admiral, Duncan, Hakeem, Ewing, Mourning, etc. Strong centers are fun to watch.

Agreed. They were just monsters that actually enjoyed playing like monsters.

The big guys now don’t play big

The mbb team could use a Shaq pregame speech.

Shaq would have stuffed the basketball AND Wilt into the basket. He was just as tall, EVERY BIT if not more athletic, and had 75 pounds on "the stilt".

And don't even get me started about all those 6-9 honkey YMCA rejects Wilt played against. What were there five 7 footers in the NBA, including Wilt back in his day???? There were 1-2 on EVERY TEAM when Shaq played. What would Shaq have done against Eddie Haskel (with the tape on his glasses), and the gang????

Yes, Olajuwon OUTPLAYED Shaq in the 93 finals, but it was hardly domination, you can check the stats.

Also, if Nick Anderson, who was a 75-80% ft shooter, hits ONE OF FOUR fts in the final minute of game 1, Kenny Smith can't nail that 3 at the buzzer to send it to ot, and now you have a COMPLETELY different series, and the Magic very well may have won the title that year.

That team was awesome. Only 1 problem. They were coached by Dale

It’s as if the fella who brought him (and CJ, and Stanley, and…) here didn’t tell him he was going to play for Dale.

We should definitely name the court after the guy who brought us Shaq and CJ, right?

Oh wait…

If not for Dale, then Shaq would have never step foot on LSU’s campus. The story of how they met and Dale became like a second father to him is the core of what has made college athletics so great.

I love Shaq but not a chance. Wilt was the best and the strongest big man to ever play the game. Nobody, not even Shaq, was going to push him around.

This doesn’t have to turn into a bash-Wilt thread, but it’s about to.

Wilt would mangle anybody, except for Shaq. Shaq would do to Wilt what Wilt did to everyone else. Shaq too big and too strong and younger Shaq too athletic for Wilt to do anything with.

it was 1995.
I used the same argument many times about stats.

I hear you 88. But that was a green Shaq against Hakeem in his prime.

Of course it's impossible to do this because we haven't mastered time travel, but I would LOVE to see 1995 Hakeem attempt to handle 2000 Shaq. No way, no how would he or prime Wilt have a prayer.
