Jose has to be in the regular rotation, who sits?

Dyson or Hawk? Honestly I don’t include Naji because he plays more 3/4 and not guard but Jose’s energy is undeniable and he’s also become a really good 3 point shooter. Dyson is clearly the better defender while Hawk is clearly the better shooter. There’s some interesting decisions to be made but to me Trey, Larry and Jose need to be the constants off the bench.

Add Dyson to the mix and ride the hot hand between Jose and Dyson. They can play together with Zion if Jose is going to keep making 3s. He's almost at 38% right now.
In the playoffs we'll play 8-9 guys max anyways. Naji and Hawk just won't be out there.

I see that last rotation wing/guard spot as time shared. It all depends on matchup and what kind of energy you need.

This might sound crazy but I also think Home v Away game means something. Imo the crowd matters in the NBA, Jose gets the home crowd excited. Home crowd getting excited and vocal will be a plus for the home team.
Jose’s “crowd effect” is neutralized on the road.

Yeah but he just made plays last night. The crowd effect buff is nice though.
Jose just needs to be out there unless a good team is hunting him. There's probably not a place out there for him against some of the longer teams we'll play in May.
I just wouldn't be surprised if we played 8 guys in a playoff game and Dyson over Jose happens.

Jose is important in games like this upcoming Portland game on a 2nd night of a back to back. That's the type of game we shoudl easily win, but can lose b/c of travel/tiredness, but Jose can come in and make a big difference with his energy, same with Hawkins in a game like that.

I agree. I’m just saying his “presence” is typically more impactful at home bc of how he turns up the juice in the SKC. Honestly IMO at home Willie should read the room and if he feels he needs the crowd to help the throw Jose in bc he will more times then not get the crowd involved.

Only in New Orleans with WG as coach would Jose get the playing time he has right now.
Hawk 10 out 10 GM's would find more valuable than Jose. In reality Hawk should be in the Pelicans future and get as many value minutes as possible, but we have a journeyman bench player as Head Coach and holds sentilmental feelings for individuals similar to him.

I don't think it has anything to do with sentimental feelings. It's about defense. WG always prioritizes defense when determining playing time. Especially in a game like last night, it was won on defense and he wasn't going to jeopardize that.

Well this is a take.
Jose has a higher efg, DBPM, BPM, WS/48 and VOR than Hawkins.
Hawkins will be an incredible player for us, Jose is the fricking secret sauce on this team. He doesn't need to drop 15 plus points to give you effective minutes. Hes just in there to frick the other teams shite up.

If you need a bucket you are you taking?

There's about 5 other guys I'd go to before having that conversation, and if this team needs Hawk or Jose to get a bucket we're probably fricked anyways.
If this was a rebuild year absolutely I'd be banging the Hawkins drum.
Jose just contributes to winning basketball more. It's not a coincidence that this stretch of wins has his fingerprints all over it.

Last night kind of illustrated why Willie may be hesitant with Hawk. When both teams subbed out late and we were nursing the lead to the end of the game, Hawk took an ill-advised 3 early in the clock. It worked out great because he hit it, but it was a dumb shot.
Now, there's something to be said about keeping your foot on the opponent's neck, but that's just not our team philosophy and not what was needed there.

You seem to be conflating Jose for Naji. Willie’s reliance on Naji has gone way overboard sometimes, and if you want to say he shouldn’t be getting minutes over Hawk a lot of times, I’d agree.
Jose has been a plus player since December. Since the start of December, In only 8 games out of 27 has Jose ended with a - +/-, and Naji has done it 12 times in 31 games and is shooting 31% from 3. Jose is at 38.

+/- is a stat that needs context. Zion was a -7 at half and finished a -6 for the game. Would you agree Zion was quite the reason why we won that game last night?
Naji should be nailed to the bench because he wont be with the team come next year (or at least shouldnt be) and you should be getting Hawk these minutes if you believe hes your CJ replacement down the road.

Hawkins taking an open 3 at any point in time is never a dumb shot. They ran the play for him, he shot it. That's his job.
and it wasn't early in the shot clock. There were 12 seconds left. and if he doesn't hit that 3 and they come down and score again, it's a 7 or 6 point game with a little over a minute left.
And i thought it was rather premature to sub out your starters regardless of what the opponent did when you only had a 13 point lead with 3 minutes left.

The issue is that everyone has a mindset that we can just play Hawkins/ Jose/ Dyson for the next 5 years however we please based on match up or hot hand.
Everyone also thinks we will be able to pay them all to do the same thing and have minutes for all of them.
It's just not realistic. Like I said Naji barely moves anything. The role he played should have always been a bruising PF anyway not another guard. Lidell was already planned to be the cheap replacement for Naji not another guard.

Last night isn't the best judge because we shortened up rotations a bit compared to normal and gave Zion/Bi/CJ all more minutes than normal based on the matchup and trying to go all out to get the W against a good team. But it's not the regular season norm.

This isn't meant to be directed specifically at you.
How exactly can anyone think this way with how last night went?
Our starting center played only 11 minutes. Naji did not play. Jose/ Hawk had 15 total minutes.
I just can't wrap my head around this one.
