What if the pelicans don’t make a trade?

With how quiet the trade market is, its a strong possibility Pelicans don’t make a trade. I guess just curious how many on this board would be ok with that and how many would not?
Heres some key points to consider:
1. Jonas and Naji are free agents after this year.
2. BI and Trey are due new contracts after this year.
3. Pelicans are 29-21; despite being 7th in West- one of the best records in franchise history after 50 games- some would say time to win is now.
4. As we seen and even Willie Green has noted its been difficult to have every postive impact player in the rotation. Time for a consolidation trade?
Just curious on the board’s thoughts.

I'll probably just shrug.
Not a huge deal, we're not a contender this year. That's why I'd like to get something for Jonas instead of moving him, but that doesn't mean there will be a deal available that makes sense.

There's not many trades out there for us to make, unless we make a big blockbuster one for a star, which isn't going to happen.

I'd rather make a trade than not but it's not that simple.

I agree with both you guys although I personally would like Griff to trade Naji to help Willie in regards to rotations. This is not a hate Naji trade but more of it would be much better for our rotation moving forward if we were able to trade him. I also don’t see us resigning him either.

Naji and Jonas are the guys to watch. I don't see many available upgrades to Jonas, so I'd probably just keep him and try to re-sign him for two years.
Naji I'd like to trade for some seconds. Clears minutes and gets us back some of the picks we had to waste to offload Graham.

I like this idea but I’m honestly not sure we would get two seconds for Naji. Maybe one I think or just a low level player swap. I’m ok with that as well since again helps our rotations. I do wonder if Griff would do that though knowing Naji impact on the locker room.

It takes 2 to make a trade. If it was a very active trade market and we did nothing I would be disappointed.
It looks like not many people are selling and the guys who may move arent really needs for us

Thats true but if I’m Atlanta, Brooklyn or Chicago- I don’t understand this strategy at all. Is the play-in that important for these teams and worth paying those salaries?

The entire league is delusional now with the play-in.
Everyone thinks they have a chance. Miami last year probably isn't helping.
It's exceedingly rare to have Cinderella teams in the NBA. I mean it happens, but much less than most sports.

I expect the Pelicans to not trade and not trade in the offseason either.
At least as long as Willie and Griff are around.

Jonas just signed a short team-friendly extension 2 years ago. Maybe he's willing to do the same to run it back again. $15M for Jonas is one of the best contracts in the NBA.

I just don't see us dumping Naji for a 2nd. Only way I see him moving is if he is part of a bigger deal that clearly improves the roster.
I hate Naji on this team, it's always excruciating to watch him think he is some elite scorer only for him to make the most out of control dribble drive an NBA player could ever make. 9 times out of 10, he's a net negative for us on the court.
But it's clear with his interactions with the rest of the team, particularly with BI, that he is a big off the court glue guy. I think selling him for a 2nd would wreck some team chemistry.

These franchises don't want to go into a rebuild. There fine just being in playoff contention every year and selling tickets

I don't think that's true and I'm not a Naji lover.
Naji is great WHEN:
- He doesn't try to lead fast breaks. He's way to hit or miss on this. Sometimes great, but often he misses wide open guys or turns it over.
- He only shoots 3s from the corner when he's wide open.
- He doesn't go into summer league mode. I like his drives when under control.
shite goes off the rail when Naji becomes a high usage guy.

Which he does 9 out of every 10 appearances

Pels should know by now if they are resigning Jonas. If not, then moving him and his expiring deal is good business. Doesn't have to be for a center. Could target a back up PG like Tyus Jones and address center in offseason. We aren't winning a chip this year...

You can't go into the playoffs with Nance and Zeller. That just admits you're giving up. No, we're not a contender IMO, but we need to at least try our best to get Zion and the young guys playoff experience.
