Cholesterol isn’t a bad thing, statins will kill you
This is dangerous advice. A classic case of “go with what your doctor says” instead of “go with what internet says.”
Yes I’m aware of the various side effects and alternative treatments.

its likely because he calculated your ASCVD. it factors in bp, TC, hdl, age, smoking, diabetes, and sex to give a risk stratification. 10 year risk measurement of which its recommended to start if greater than a certain % per guideline.
I plugged in your numbers using 140 for bp....assuming you arent diabetic it depends on if you are a smoker or not. smoker with the numbers you gave, your ASCVD is over 10%. if your BP is a good bit lower, you dont smoke, and/or aren't diabetic you may not need the statin.... but maybe you have some other risk factors or history that made them want to start the statin. this is not medical advice

Eh. It's true that cholesterol in and of itself isn't a bad thing. In fact, it's needed for many vital bodily functions.

VA recommend I take that and fish oil I do sometimes not all the time.

Nothing wrong with bp meds. If you need them you need them.
Absent a serious medical condition that should only affect very few people, the reason why you would need them is because you're in very bad shape because of bad lifestyle choices.

Not yet, but have a Dr appointment next month for a general physical that I've been putting off for a while. Wouldn't be surprised if I get put on something. I'm 42 as well

Same; was prescribed olmesartan and was responsive to it but its effect has been waning recently…

What’s your HDL baw? My cholesterol has been 230 for years but my HDL is 90. Due to the tc/hdl ratio they shy away from meds.
I’m 5’10” and weigh about 175. If my weight goes up to 185 my cholesterol goes up to around 270. You need to lose weight via exercise and cut back on processed food.
I’m 47

No, I'm 57 and have never taken anything. Stop being fat, poor and unhealthy.

It’s a shame how much COVID has deteriorated the trust in the medical institutions (I know it has me second guessing some things too). But not all medications are bad and unnecessary. Rather help pay for a pharmaceutical company yacht than have an unnecessary heart attack.

I was prescribed bp meds at 38. At the time I was overweight and drank every day. I lost 25 lbs and cut way back on the drinking. I'm 42 now and have been off the meds for over a year

Its safer to be not fat and have some muscle, more resilient to heart attacks, than to be weak on medication to pass tests.

No. Doctors prescribe these things so lazy fat obese slobs can continue to eat awful diets and stay alive. It’s pure laziness. I’d be embarrassed to be on blood pressure medication in my 30’s
