There is high demand for almost any skilled trade.

AI will make human engineers, accountants, stock traders, etc. obsolete.
Do you understand how much automation has been done in the accounting field and profession?
A large portion of our "grunt work" is already automated which has freed us up to do more volume and more complex work.
There are less accountants but there will never be zero accountants.
The average age of CPAs in America is almost 50 years old.
Accounting is a people business, contrary to popular belief. Our clients don't want to talk to and interact with a robot or a chatbot.
I do not know shite about what engineers and stock traders do as those are not my profession.
There is way too many folks who know frick all about what accountants do or how the accounting profession has been leveraging technology and automation for several decades now already.

Figure out where you want to live and what sort of business might be in demand there. If you don’t care then just figure out what you like to do and find a job that is similar. I like history. You obviously can’t make much money being a history teacher and I don’t want to be in school forever to become a professor. So I have looked into some potential careers that combine history with business and now I’m working towards that.

I believe you made my point when you said automation does most of the grunt work now. It will soon do almost all the work, except for the salesmanship. Salesman talk to clients, which is basically what you and I previously said.

I told him he should should get a business degree if he wants to start a business.

Have you tried getting a tractor or vehicle starter rebuilt lately (the Chinese aftermarket ones are junk)?
How about getting a hydraulic cylinder repaired?

My son, who will be a senior next year wants to get into sports medicine. He plays football and wrestles and has taken a strong interest in all of what the sports trainers do, and decided that’s what he wants to pursue. He’s even started helping out with some sports that he doesn’t play to put his feet in the water.

One of the most pervasive lies on this site told by people not in the trades.
I've said it numerous times, if you really think trades are a goldmine, walk into any supply house and ask the tired broken down men if they want their own kids to go into the trades.

I have a friend whose father owned a HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical company when he was growing up, so he learned all 3 by the time he graduated high school. Dude doesn't have a single college credit and is literally rolling in money. Mansion in Southlake, high-end sports cars, RVs, side-by-sides, etc. He started out turning wrenches, but has since been buying up other HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical companies
This is a business owner, not a tradesman. He makes his money off of tradesmen.

Service dept.’s in automotive and Atv/UTV dealerships cannot find enough workers, and the ones they do have are 40+ years old. A guy in teens or 20’s getting into this will be able demand anything once the older guys start retiring.
They've been telling this lie since the 70's that all the good mechanics are going to retire and a new mechanic can print money in the coming years. Mechanics have now literally spent their whole careers without ever seeing this come true.

Save up a little seed money and open your own shop, and yes. Absolutely. I work with them everyday. Believe me - they’re doing very, very well out there.

It will soon do almost all the work,
Just like the AI bot that the lawyer used that made up case law in his motion to the court that said lawyer did not check and then said lawyer got busted by the court?
Who will verify that your AI bot didn’t frick something up or misapply a standard or code section?
Do you understand what goes into preparing financial statements or a tax return other than your own w-2 Andy return?
Are you aware of the level of judgement and application of a fact pattern to law is involved in financial reporting and tax compliance?
Are you aware of the large amount of nuance and grey areas there are in accounting, financial reporting, and tax law?
How will your AI bot determine the aggressiveness or risk taking your client wants to take on a grey area issue on their tax return?
What do you actually know about the nuts and bolts of the accounting profession?
Technology will and has allowed us to do a lot more work than in the past but has not eliminated us.
There is more work than ever out there for eager and entrepreneurial CPAs and technology will only help us do more work.
From your comments it appears you are talking out of your arse and know exactly zero about the accounting profession and how much the profession is using and leveraging technology already and we have a shortage of people and their is not an end in sight on that front.

My daughter graduated OU with a finance degree and on the President's list. Her job is with a tech company managing all reps and certs documents for federal requirements as well as business consulting to help businesses stay in business and not violate some obscure code, or requirement. She started at 6 figures.
My son will go off to college next year to study mechanical engineering and aerodynamics, as he wants to design and build high-performance autos. To foster that, he has been taking auto tech in the school system's career center, has received multiple ASE certs, and in this, his last semester, he's serving a paid internship at a Porsche dealer. He knows what he wants to do in the long run. My daughter doesn't. She's doing good now, and I hope her future remains bright, but I fully expect my son to far surpass her in his success, by which I mean, she has no specific goals. Still figuring that out. But the boy? He has very clear goals that he set for himself when he was 13, and he's right on track. He's only counting on himself for what he achieves in life. That's the kind of person who will push himself to succeed.

It’s amazing how many people AREN’T any of those things. Plenty won’t even return calls or show up. Didn’t realize how bad it was until I moved onto some land in Folsom and needed a bunch of things done. It’s like pulling teeth trying to get people to take your money.
