Plot twist, OP works for you

People are not meant to be watched all of the time, it's unnatural and doesn't contribute to a positive workplace environment.
I hate being watched as much as anyone, but a lot of folks don’t understand domain and it shows.
Don’t want your computer watching you? Close it. Don’t want it listening when you aren’t using it? Put it in a box.
Employer cars aren’t yours. Most drug testing in the common workplace is only there if you drive company assets.
Sadly when it comes to policy and insurance companies, it just takes one bad apple to demonize a generation.

No matter how good the employee is, screw ups or bad decisions are going to happen at scale. If the pool you're hiring from is already lower on the socioeconomic spectrum the likelihood is dramatically higher. I used to have to manage a bunch of call center employees making $12.50 an hour and there were maybe two I trusted implicitly, but even they were capable of making mistakes. The rest were just a fricking terror.

I have a dash cam, but I have it turned around facing me so I can get home at night and review how many times I use certain words.

I doubt you'd want a camera in your office for 8 hours a day, treat your employees with the same level of respect.
Counterpoint: I’ve never seen someone kill a family because they were texting while rolling around in their office chair.

Drive with a finger in your nose.

Be careful this just triggered my potential sociopath flag on my TD Plus browser widget.

This is the most detached from reality response I’ve seen on the OT in two hours.

They're good for getting rid of shite heads and producing some generally funny videos. I have one of a guy driving like a douche and his fire extinguisher breaks free in the backseat and goes off.
As far as liability, i consider it a wash. For everything it exonerates you on you have hard evidence of an employee doing something legitimately stupid on others and you're fault is proven. Also, if you have a driver with a poor driving history and didn't do anything about it, it opens you up to additional liability via negligence.

When corporations impose a nanny state too many of you just accept it, whereas if the government required this in all commercial vehicles to improve traffic safety everyone would be up in arms. In the last ten years, the level of surveillance Americans unquestionably accept from corporations has become more concerning than what the government does. If you can't see that, you have your head in the damn sand.

You can blame personal injury attorneys for this one. Commercial vehicles get absolutely arse fricked in court for minor fender benders. These programs are expensive and only money out because they only need to prevent a couple claims from hitting the max to pay for themselves.

Having dash cams facing the road I don't have much problem with, and provide ample evidence in the vast majority of cases to determine who is at fault. But to have a camera facing the driver and recording audio seldom would provide more context and evidence that would benefit the company. Employers are using them to watch their employees.

The railroads installed them in all of the locomotives. Inward and outward facing cams. Plus GPS and real-time reporting of all systems. One of the reasons I got out. No point in putting us through all of the training when some jackass 1000 miles away is calling you on the radio to notify you of some procedural error you may or may not have made.

There's a lot more going on than that. Most of these have accelerometers and some are hooked into the OBD to measure braking, throttle position, etc. The driver facing camera catches a lot more than just the driver. They can see out the drivers side window, and in a lot of trucks out the back in case you're rear ended. Additionally, most of the decent ones are using AI to identify drivers without seatbelts, using their phone, etc. to flag any unsafe drivers.

Employers are using them to watch their employees.

There may be some insurance companies that give significant discounts for the cams. As a La. based website, there should be plenty who would appreciate that cost savings!
