I don't get the infatuation with people not getting why Heard wanted to play the same position that he's played the whole time he's played ball. He was a 5 Star for a reason. He left. No need to spin time trying to make him a villian, and compare his skillset to a kid a year younger, and not developed yet.
Because he made a commitment and then backed out like a pansy arse? How hard is that to follow and the he stays in the sec? Frick that

Well, he wasn't going to start this year, his sophomore year. He would likely start his junior year, and then leave for the NFL (whether ready or not) I'm not great at math, but that's one year.

If heard were merely a blip, these threads wouldn’t keep popping up. Kid is going to be awesome, and lsu would have benefitted heavily had he stuck around to replace Campbell if he goes pro early.

He literally played RT his whole career because he was on the same HS team as Will Campbell and only got to play LT his senior year when WC went to college. Nice research bud!

Heard had a legit prototype NFL tackle size as a senior in HS, and wasn’t remotely lacking in athleticism.
I’ve heard scouts say that for kids THAT BIG it often takes a little longer for them to figure out how to coordinate their movements, since it’s just so much body to coordinate. I’ve heard Darnell Washington (former UGA TE) cited as an example of this - apparently, at the various camps and all-American events, he’d occasionally do something jaw-dropping but otherwise looked way overmatched; obviously he grew into an absolute beast. I don’t think heard ever looked anywhere near that bad, but there was definitely a lack of coordination to his movements at times, which sometimes gave the appearance of slow feet or average athleticism. But his top end reps did NOT have that appearance. So if you buy this scouting theory, I definitely think Heard would be a prime candidate to appear more athletic on tape with greater consistency once he gets accustomed to his enormous body.
Weston Davis is sort of the flip side of the coin. He unquestionably moves incredibly well at present—but he also has a good deal of filling out to do, so there’s definitely a possibility that his quickness is diminished at higher weights.
All of this is to say that I don’t think Weston Davis’s movement skills make him a slam dunk better prospect than heard. He’s a helluva consolation prize, and I don’t think we’ll necessarily miss heard too much even in 2025, but i still personally think I’d take heard if given a choice between the two.
Of course, you’re not allowed to say anything remotely positive about anyone who leaves the program so I’ll go ahead and just take the downvotes from all the people who can’t handle anything but unadulterated sunshine at all times

quote:It's a big loss. That is an excellent offensive lineman.
Heard would've been a depth player and then a one-year starter, so unless we have major injuries, it's not that big of a loss.

In the wake of his decision to hit the portal after his first year, I am left to question why (take the NIL out of it) he ever came to LSU knowing Campbell is the starting LT. It makes no sense.

You're right he is a villain. F-ck him and his me-first attitude. There were several ways he could have handled it, but he chose to handle it like a bitch!

The range of evaluations on Heard is insane

Honestly this thread was started after watching a Weston Davis highlight, and his athleticism really impressive. So it was more about the excitement of getting Davis and reminded me that we are just fine even after losing a good player like Lance.

Not that it matters but he played WR in junior high, Defensive End freshman and sophomore year, RT junior year, and LT senior year.

I'm not so sure he was obsessed with anything.
The LT rumor was just from posters here speculating. He was likely just offered a prime starting LT spot at Tennessee, and a fat NIL deal.

I agree with this. It doesn't make sense. He couldn't beat out WC in high school, so why would he think he could beat him out in college? He seems to be a bit full of himself and is not a team player. What is he going to do in the NFL when he can't beat out a LT. Just take his ball and go home?

The timing for Heard at LSU was poor, and his insistence on playing LT is why he had to leave.
I'm grateful he came and contributed what he did to the program.
He may have not played a lot of meaningful snaps, but he made the players he went against in practice better, but he felt he had to go make his own way.
I don't blame LSU for not wanting to give starter dollars to a backup, nor do I hold it against him for leaving.
I wish him well, until he is Tiger Bait.

This doesn’t compute. He was a Jr in High School when Will Campbell was a Sr. So unless Neville had two Left Tackles playing the same position at the same time, he didn’t play LT in High School but ONE season.

Just for kicks, look up the difference in average NFL salaries for a LT and a RT, or G and you tell me which one you'd rather play.
The only RTs that make the same money have a lefty QB, and those are pretty rare.
Tua is the only 1 I can think of off the top of my head.

Heard is plenty athletic to play LT for his entire career. His measurables are elite for a tackle as well. Sucks we have two great tackles ahead of him and he refused to wait a year to get on the field at OT.
He's going to be a great player. Sometimes great players leave.

Exactly right king.... time will tell... but Heard's feet will get a QB killed at UT.

You actually make some good points. Basically time will only tell. We won't know the answers until both have finished their careers, and see how they compare.
Posted on 2/1/24 at 11:14 am to ZenFNmaster
A RT starter to LT starter NFL salary is not at all what Im comparing. Im comparing the salary of being a RT starter in the league to a third string LT journeyman salary.
