re: For what value would you sell your pet?

I've had pets all my life. I can never remember a time where I didn't have a dog. I have one now and also a cat.
But they are not people. Sure I bond with them. But it's not the same bond as with humans, especially my family and friends.
If a pet died, I would certainly be sad and mourn. But it would be a short period of sadness and I would be over it rather quickly. If I were to lose a child, it would be devastating and I'm not sure how I would recover.
To equate the two things is completely ridiculous
Spot on. I love dogs. I have a lab now that I am closer to than any dog I have ever had. If the zombie apocalypse comes I'd butcher her and feed her to my daughter without a second thought. Wouldn't want to do it but I would if it were her or my wife or daughter or myself.
Folks have lost their damned minds about their dogs. You can't go anywhere any more without someone having their dog with them. Dogs don't want to go to Home Depot. Anything in their right mind don't want to go to Home Depot. We ain't as bad as Europe where dogs in restaurants are more common than restaurants without dogs. They are animals, they are happy because they are with their master, not because they are in WalMart.

I would pay a lot of money to get my pet back. Miss that dog every single day.

Yea. These people are either sociopaths, or they are lying to themselves.
"There's no amount of money in the world to make me part with Snickers"
Yea, right.

I’d never sell….ever. No amount.

It's hard to put a price on 100% loyalty and the fact that my dog would protect me at the ultimate cost. If I am at home, he is always where he can see me.

how their pet is like a member of their family,
I have a brother-in-law that I'd consider selling for a bargain price.

16 yo blind deaf chihuahua that hates children and mostly hates everyone. White dog that sheds a pound daily
Did I mention he has a collapsed trachea and coughs all night.
He won’t go out to pee if there is rain or frost.
He is on heart medicine that is costly and he will cough his pills up no matter how far you shove down his throat so they must be crushed and mixed with scrambled eggs every other day
Priceless

That dog needs to be put out of its misery

Agreed 1000%
I have a dog. I didn't want the dog. I still don't want the dog. I'm pretty happy with my life and don't need an animal "friend". For me, the dog is 50x more of a burden than a benefit. And he's a pretty good dog all things considered. So it's nothing personal towards the dog. My answer to the OP's question would be that I would pay $100 for someone to take the dog. But...my wife loves the dog. My kids love the dog (when it's convenient). However, they at least have the common sense and decency not to think the GD dog is a "little human" that needs to come with us to store, or on an airplane, or to eat pizza. That's because they don't feel the need to seek attention. Which is the ONLY reason people take their dog out to public settings like a store or restaurant (whether they want to admit it or not). I doubt Sprinkles ever said "Hey, Mike. Let's go grab a pizza. I'll lay on the ground or bark at other dogs while you eat."

I wouldn’t because I’d end up spending every cent of it trying to replace him. A good horse is both expensive and hard to find

Not for sale. I'd slap somebody in the mouth for even making an offer.

I once went hunting with a guy that was into field trials, and his dogs were wild AF that day, bumping birds, refusing to stay close, etc. He finally asked me if I had a dog worth a frick so I put down my 2 Llewellin Setters and they ran circles around the dudes English Pointers.
He offered me $10k per dog. Told him they weren't for sale.

You are the one with a dot problem. The thread says what amount would you sell your pet for. No amount am I gonna sell my dog. It’s pretty simple
If you met Elon Musk and he fell in love with your pet and offered you 5 million for it, you'd just be like, "nah, I'm good"?

All you people that say it’s no problem have your opinions, but don’t slam people that love their pets…
Posted on 1/31/24 at 9:55 am to tigerstripedjacket
We wouldn’t. These two cats were $2000 each.
Posted on 1/31/24 at 9:57 am to tigerstripedjacket
None. I am a sucker. Keep the money, I want my dog for every day I am given the gift of having her. Now people in my life? I’d sell them for pennies on the dollar. Buy me a ham sammich and you can have my buddy Bob.

I think you are all full of shite saying no price.
If someone offered you a million dollars for your dog, and you didn't take it, you're an idiot, and i love my two dogs, and if i could pay money to bring my other two that have died back, i would.
But get out of here with this nonsense that an animal that is going to live for 12 years is priceless. There's a price. It might be a ridiculous price, but there's without a doubt a price.
Hell if someone offered me $100k for my dog today i'd take it, and i'd simply go get another dog.

Ok. All you people who think anyone is going to come and offer you $500,000 or more for your dog are just not in touch with reality.
