re: Dejounte Murray as a potential trade target

Because defensively Murray has shown that he struggles to play up positions on defense. And while CJ has shown great effort, he can’t either. And with Zion as one of your defensive anchors, that would be a disaster.

I pushed this over a month ago, but to replace CJ. And CJ has been fantastic this year, no question. But we need a true PG, and CJ and Murray will not work as a back court pairing.
I hate to break it to you, but Murray is not a true PG either. Leans more PG than CJ, but he isn’t a Chris paul or Steve Nash style distributor.

He averaged 9.5 assists per 36 his last year as a PG. Weird now as a secondary creator and finisher on the Hawks. He’s more like 5-6. Chris Paul and Steve Nash are two of the greatest Pg’s of all time. I’m not holding him to that standard. I do think Murray can control the ball and run the offense, and has shown to be pretty clutch. He definitely leans more towards the f you attitude that this team doesn’t have. He would be the best PG we’ve had in a good while.

I mean the ONLY PG right now that comes close to that level of a facilitator is Haliburton.
Those guys were efficient and methodical about running an offense. didn't turn the ball over.
But right now those guys don't grow on trees. Would you prefer a fred vanvleet for 3/128.5mil or a dejounte murray for 4/138mil (after his 15% trade bonus and incentives).

I’m sold. Let’s do it.
We know what we have now.
Its a 7th seed team at best
Its not clutch.
It’s an Ingram led team.
I’m over it because we all know what he is.

I’m giving up the loot for Murray..i just am.
Now’s the time to take your shot. He’s a nasty point guard..long, defensive beast, midrange killer plus he’s a younger player.
I don’t like the Klutch connection so mgmt would have to evaluate that but as far as talent goes, Murray is the exact type of player we need.

Some relevant points:
-You are never contending for a championship if Brandon Ingram, a one time all-star alternate, non-three-point shooting wing who doesn't defend is your lead player, getting the most shot attempts and costing you the most money, $50+million a year. What's left to discuss? It's baked in. You move him, sooner than later.
-Addition by subtraction, you move in a shooting wing like Trey into Brandon's spot, creating more floor spacing and more shot attempts for Zion and more three-point scoring for the team.
-Murray, unlike CJ, has played the point for most of his career. He's a big guard who can get downhill, gets steals and shoots about 38% from 3 on more than 6 attempts a game. He's a much better fit than Brandon and has comparable production. Plus, he's a whole lot cheaper and good with the ball in his hands at the end of games.
-Unless you have a star, center does not matter. You fill the slot with competent role players on cheap contracts who can rebound and block shots. Call it the Miles Plumlee rule. You don't chase a center. You don't pay a center. Unless it is a star center.
-By rule and choice the NBA is phasing out defense. Great defensive ability does not matter as much as it once did. Accordingly, stop emphasizing defensive ability in roster construction and use and start emphasizing shooting. Period. It's Paul Westphal's league now.

Do you remember which episode that was?

Has Murray ever made a team better? The Spurs success his whole time there and the Hawks got worse when they got him. I'm not putting all that on him. But there are players that improve teams. Is he one of them?

Yeah we could get Murray right now for JV, Dyson and a 1st.
I would call Atlanta and offer BI, Naji, EJ for Murray, Okongwu, Griffin and a 1st.
Griffin adds another guy capable of shooting at 40% for us, Okongwu could be center of future on a very good deal, Murray steps into BI’s starting spot. We end up with a starting 5 that is VERY switchable

Griff ain’t doing shite and you all know it. BI and Willie arent going anywhere while Griff is leading the charge.

If he were ok to play here, he is signed for 4 more years, so not negotiations necessary.
The problem is he's a world class a-hole and will tank the franchise if he doesn't get what he wants.
That's why ATL is taking a huge loss on him.

The fact that there is a daily war on this board on who is not living up to their potential more between Zion and BI really does shine a light on how bleak things are for this franchise.
I mean even with their faults, with good injury luck, we are a playoff team that's deep with young assets.
If we limit the outlook discussion to title contention, yeah it's bleak, but this is the NBA.

I know you didn’t but to act like this never happens in sports and only people who play high level sports understand this is incorrect. It was well known that when Shaq came to Miami he deferred to Dwade; both Wade and Bosh later on deferred to Bron; KD deferred to it being Stephs team in Golden State;
What he's talking about is KD's time in OKC when he'd hide in big playoff moments and would become the 2/3 and hide in the corner.

Do we really have a right to shite on KD- when our two bumbling superstars can’t even run a normal basketball play during crunch time?

It's not shitting on KD. Just pointing out the correct version of the mentality he's suggesting.
