Police Arrest Teen Said to Be Linked to Hundreds of Swatting Attacks

A 17-year-old from California is allegedly the swatter known as Torswats, according to sources familiar with the investigation. The teenager is currently in custody and awaiting extradition from California to Seminole County, Florida. The Florida State Attorney’s Office tells WIRED that he faces four felony counts.
quote:
In private Telegram chats witnessed by WIRED over the past year, a person operating the Torswats handle claimed responsibility for hundreds of false reports of bomb threats and active shootings called into schools, politicians’ homes, courthouses, and religious institutions around the US.
quote:
According to records shared with WIRED, Dennis engaged someone using the Torswats handle on a peer-to-peer chatting service called Tox under the guise of ordering a swat in December 2022. By recording his network traffic, the investigator surreptitiously captured the swatter’s IP address along with a username that at the time was unknown to law enforcement. According to Dennis, in January 2023, he handed the evidence to the FBI special agents in charge of Torswats’ case. In emails shared with WIRED, the FBI told Dennis this information was used in subpoenas sent to YouTube and Discord. Court records related to the case against the California teen have not yet been made public.

This kid might as well start stretching his bootyhole up himself because the feds are about to make an example out of this retard.

This swatting shite is eventually going to end up getting someone killed. Charge him with everything possible, seek out as many years as you can. Send his arse to prison for fifty years, no plea deals, and start making an example out of these shitheads.

The Tim Pools of the world will be sad if swatting comes to an end; they generate so many clicks from their “I got swatted again” content

Fifty years
50 is hyperbolic but he needs to do at least 24 legit months. Not 6 weeks and a fine. To the poster that said "someone is going to get killed", I can't find it now but I read a story where the police shot a homeowner who came out armed to one of these deals.

No, it isn't.

It’s not confined to a single instance. Several people have been killed by police because of swatting. They think they are rolling up on a hostage situation or something and someone comes out of the house and they shoot first and ask questions later.

Swatting is the ultimate trolling method along with doxing

This piece of shite was intentionally wasting vast amount of resources endangering and terrorizing people for attention.
Throw the book at him.

Any swatting should instantly carry an attempted murder charge. The kids is going to get a slew a federal and state charges for every swat they have evidence for and because of how endemic this swatting shite has become, prosecutors will show this kid no mercy. He could potentially be looking at life depending on how aggressive he is charged.

You left out a crucial part of the story…
quote:
It is unclear whether a single person operated under the Torswats name. On January 20, two days after Dennis, the private investigator, said that Torswats had been arrested, a person using the Torswats’ Telegram handle who had knowledge of previous conversations with WIRED reached out. “I am pretty sure I’ll never be arrested,” the individual wrote in a direct message on Telegram. “Seems ridiculous that a few bucks a month can allow someone to do crazy shite and never go to jail.”

No chance you get shot on the spot getting doxxed at least.

doxing
Content creators that bitch about doxing are so fricking stupid. Most make virtually no effort to mask their digital footprint and get mad when people use public record or databases (like the phone book) to find out where they live.
There are two generations that grew up with a presumption of anonymity that simply doesn't exist and has never existed, and they get really upset when that illusion is shattered with 15 minutes of work in a search engine.
Doxing is still lame, but acting like it's some huge invasion of privacy is just as stupid.

Is he tied to any of the incidents where someone actually died? If so he could get murder or manslaughter since he was committing a crime which resulted in someone’s death.
