re: Louisiana now charges road usage fee for electric and hybrid vehicles

You aren’t gonna get sympathy from the O&G posters here, who hate EVs with all their being. But I don’t have a problem with the usage tax. I (will someday) drive a Tesla because they’re innovative, cool, self drive, and practical. The last thing I ever wanted was any bills forcing EV production. I want Tesla and Rivian, etc to be above the status quo, not part of it. It’s beneficial to Tesla owners for Ford/Chevy/Dodge/Toyota/Honda/etc to keep their innovations in the toilet. Don’t make them make EVs. Let the free market make them want to make EVs.

Taxing people for being gay is a bold move in this day and age.

VA charges gas vehicle owners a fee to cover the lack of gas taxes generated by electric vehicles. But sure we aren't being forced into anything. Gas is the devil but we can't lose the money it generates.

Your math is as dumb as you are.
$60 at $.20 per gallon = 300 gallons. At 20 mi per gallon this is 6000 miles per year. Most drivers use 15000 miles per year or more. Gas vehicles are paying more than twice as much per mile to use the roads as your puny $60 or $120 annual fee.

Just did my state taxes - had to pay an extra $60 for driving a hybrid. If your vehicle is electric then the charge is $120.

Apparently doesn’t realize hybrids use gas, calls other people dumb

Of course. Doesn’t make the quoted post any less retarded.

Are you trying to get me to calculate your gas tax based off your maximum mpg?

Stop whining and go write in your diary. It’s in the always empty passenger seat in your Prius.
In all seriousness, you need to be fleeced just like the rest of us.

So because you use a hybrid/electric vehicle, you should not be required to pay your share in financial responsibility for the road maintenance?
Some of you all complain about everything, even when it makes complete sense simply because you are asked to pay your share like everyone else.

You must live right on the state border. 10,000 miles per year is very low and for 1/3 of that to be “out of state” means your story doesn’t add up

The point is the tax system isn’t fair.
And your math is just estimates at this point. No one knows how much you truly drive.
I think hybrid is fine and currently more practical than an ev. But the government is going to force you into them and still make you pay all sorts of taxes. In the future it will go up again.

I bet you weren’t complaining when you got your Federal tax credit. Since it’s a hybrid, you probably only got $3,750 back. That would be 62.5 years of paying the $60.
You are still coming out ahead.

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
A tale as old as mankind itself. Don't feel singled out hybrid car users, we all get it in the arse one way or the other. If you're a working person that is

Submitted for your consideration:
While you are virtue signalling by parading around in your oh, so socially acceptable EV on your way to a rally demanding that fossil fuel harvesting be stopped, think for a second. Once all of you planetary saviors succeed and all ICE powered vehicles are eliminated, how will highway construction and repair be funded?

Nop. I live in Baton Rouge.

Meh, not very low. I just don't have a brutal commute like some other people.

Every drive to the Florida panhandle adds about 450 out of state miles. That's an easy 2,000-3,000 alone, not counting driving anywhere else.
But for the sake of not getting bogged down in detail, even if my out of state driving was only half of what I'm saying, I would still be "overtaxed".

Dude, just admit that you have zero idea how to go about calculating whether this fee is "fair" for hybrids. Your deflections are making you look very, very stupid

EV, I understand the tax. Hybrid, they’re just over-doing it.

EVs are heavier than ICE vehicles and cause more damage to roadways. Shouldn't there be a fee for that
I don’t know that they “cause more damage” but electric vehicles do have to replace tires earlier.
Really what they’re doing is recouping the lost gas tax that pays for highway maintenance.
I don’t love taxes or anything but it’s a valid pay off.
