Nance starting for JV - will we see it again?

I didn't hear Willie after the game. Did he address this?
Interestingly, it didn't seem to help too much initially as they cut the lead. But Jonas did seem to feast when he came in, so ultimately it worked.
I think long-term starting Nance makes a lot of sense. He needs more minutes with Zion.

Willie said in post game JV will continue starting but they will continue experimenting

It only makes sense to use our depth to our advantage. Let different experimental type lineups feast on the opposing team’s trash.

I mean i konw it's not normal b/c it matters who gets starts for some reason, but it would be wise to base the starter on the matchup.
and really we've done that anyway when Nance is healthy. There are games where Larry is just better and plays more minutes, and there are games where JV is just better and plays more. That's how it should work with them two.

That's the way it should work in every game. If Hawk is on a heater, leave him in and get him the ball. Or use him as a decoy to pull players in to doubles. No egos. Just W's.

I would agree. If Hawkins is on, then he needs to play more than Dyson. If he's off, then maybe Dyson should play a bit more.
The only guys that should play the same amount regardless are Zion, BI, CJ, Herb, Trey.

JV can be feast or famine on offense depending on the matchup. I really like this version of Willie Green that plays good offense players and is willing to try new things.

Didn’t Nance just start the second half? Am I mistaken? I was a little distracted last night.
But I do think it makes sense to alternate lineups. Let’s take advantage of our roster.

I've been asking for it on this board for over a year
JV doesn't have to lose many, if any, minutes. And Val can increase his usage by being more of a feature in the offense against bench units.
Val and his post game are less used and thus less valuable in minutes where BI/CJ/Zion are on the court together.

correct, but if you're going to roster JV, then utilize him the best you can b/c he's one of the best back to the basket offensive centers in the league not named Embiid/Jokic. We can get wide open 3's simply by dumping it into JV in the post and getting double teams. A lineup of Jose/Hawkins/Naji/Trey/JV should be able to feast on open looks, and what backup center is going to stop JV in the post 1 on 1.

Correct. JV started the game, and Larry started the 2nd half.
There's tons of data now (besides all the data we had from last season) that says that Zion and BI are better with Larry. That's due to spacing. JV works great with two of CJ, Hawk, and Trey on the floor.
So, it really always makes sense to start Larry, unless we're playing a dominant center that JV is a better matchup against. But can Larry's historically-fragile body take the pounding of regularly starting at center against the likes of Jokic and Embiid?
And that's the thing: players like routine. They like to know on a consistent basis what their roles are. And one guy starting the game some of the time and the other guy starting the game at other times takes players out of their rhythm.
But last night, Utah was starting John Collins at center, so we really, really needed to start Larry and matchup JV on Kessler. I'm glad that's what Willie did in the 2nd half.

Larry should probably start versus every center outside of those 2. And honestly, I don't know if any center is really going to stop either of them anyway.

Interesting part was it was looking like your typical Pelicans 3rd quarter for more than half the quarter even with Larry starting. Utah was coming in hot and reduced the lead to 10. Then JV came in and pretty closed them out. Reminded me a lot of the GSW games. They may have something with JV coming off the bench in the 3rd.

When JV comes in with shooters it works well. I liked him coming in against the 2nd unit

You mean when this "I'm a man" moment happen.
just 1 of the many highlights from last night.

Kessler fouled him like 5 times on that play, and it didn't matter.

Was so good. It’s probably one of the things that worries me most about a JV trade - he and Herb are the two guys I think have some real toughness on an otherwise soft team.
But I do think JV needs more rest if he stays here and hopefully a rested Nance can provide that.
And hopefully more in shape Zion will become more of a force on the boards so it’s not just JV banging alone.

JV is no joke. I remember the scuffle on the sideline with the Suns. JV calmly waded through and they parted like the Red Sea.
