Willie Green said the Pelicans will look to get the ball in Zion's hands more to start games. “I think it helps us with our spacing. ... It’s hard to come off B.I. It’s hard to help off CJ. Now he’s attacking and finding guys and getting us off to early starts.”

It’s about time

Lots of folks may think he's finally in enough shape to do this, but this is just Willie finally correcting a coaching error.

I think the team, not just Willie, really wanted BI to be the #1. He's just not good enough to do that. At least not with a non shooting, non defending, non defensive rebounding, non center like Zion next to him.

Can we work on this in the middle and end too?

Or maybe they realize they can’t pay BI 40M to be the third guy on the team and reluctantly diverting finally to the real talent in the room aka Zion.

You just hit on something that has been rather obvious all season but rarely discussed here.

There's a lot of talk about the team featuring BI as the #1, which they have, when he's clearly not a #1.

But I'm not sure if some haven't noticed, BI isn't our #2 either. CJ has been better than BI this season. I see a shite ton of talking up of BI's passing/facilitating, and we know CJ has moved off ball way more, and yet CJ is STILL averaging almost as many assists as BI.

I trust CJ more than BI as a #2, though I don't particularly think either can be a #2 on a title team, unless we had that version of Zion we thought we'd get and saw December 2022. And this CJ fits wayyyyy better with that Zion than BI does.

This happening all of a sudden also has to make one wonder if they’ve gotten some offers on BI that may have them starting to think long and hard about his future on this team.

When the team needs a score, BI’s mindset is not "I need to get us a good look." His mindset is "I need to get us a bucket".

Umless Ingram's mindset drastically changes, point Zion is the closest thing we have to the table setter that we need. The fact that Willie is just now acting on this is insane.

man, I miss Point Zion so much.

Imagine a small ball lineup of Zion/CJ/Herb/Ingram/Murphy

or even Dawkins instead of Herb if we are going crazy offense.

If you watch the clip, Willie drops this as one of a laundry list of things they've been working on.

LINK

We all think it's significant because they've been needing to do this forever, but I didn't get the impression that this was really a significant direction change from Willie's point of view.

Well I find it interesting, we never hear Willie saying BI needs to get the ball more.

That's because this has been told to him by Griff.

Well we put the ball in Zion's hands alot at the beginning of the last game, and he dribbled it off his foot into traffic half the time

The guy had 2 turnovers in the whole game. Same as JV and BI. A lot of you just like to exaggerate.

Not only that but the amount of times they have Zion just standing in the corner while BI does his midrange thing is insane. Like at least have Zion set a screen or something otherwise he's a complete waste of space out on the perimeter.
