Exactly. All the Missiles or JDAMs in the world aren't going to hold a beachhead, or a rail terminal, or a small city needed being used for a logistics hub. You have to have boots on the ground.

The US government overall is the most over employed entity in the world. And the idiots currently in charge want to make it bigger. Starting with the IRS.

You might not be happy with the size of the US government but most of the world is worse.

Well we’re sending them javelins, Abrams, Bradleys, Patriot missiles, Stingers, M777 artillery, MRAP, TOW missiles, Strykers, F16s, etc etc. Everything may not be the latest version and some are export version but that is the standard issue for our military as well

We don't. Never have. It serves as a built in constituency.

Apparently its mission or function is not to defend US sovereignty and border from the ongoing undeclared, un-uniformed foreign invader incursion. Go figure.

Since CW and certainly by WW1, the Prussian-developed, American-adopted mil-ind Complex-bureaucracy requires head count up. (They never know when its overlords order the ultimate "sacrifice" for the themselves & Moloch.

Many serve patriotically with love f country and tradition. However, the dept of war has been bloated for decades (and NO goobermint Rep in DC would actually admit it's the case. Don't expect its ranks OR stated budget OR the real budget OR $$$$ will ever actually be lowered to an optimal number.

As far as government spending is concerned, the US military is always the last expenditure I complain about.

Really?

How much is a "reasonable budget" to theotetically protect and defend the US border & sovereignty from enemies, foreign & domestic"?

(oh wait)

I'd rather they clean up pork spending, money to Ukraine, etc... before they start cutting defense spending.

I get it, Mr. MIC.

Unsure, but on the subject of cleaning up government spending, it seems the defense budget is often cited first. And while I fully believe there is money we could cut from defense spending, I'd much rather start with taxpayer dollars that are going to projects/people that are much less useful (or completely useless) comparative to funding our military.

Most Govt jobs including the Military are just a job program for people who can't cut it in the private sector.

When I was in the military I couldn't wait to get out and get away from all the retards.

Imagine my disappointment when I found that the private sector may have even more dumbasses.

We need bodies to hold territory. Even if we have no intention of occupying a place, territory needs to be held for tactical reasons so long as the conflict is ongoing.

We should cut down infantry spend and focus more on technology like small drone warfare.

I don't know the particulars of the costs but I suspect the military spends a crap ton on technology and probably not quite as much on personnel.
