Have not really been able to watch tons yet this year. Bits and pieces. Having been keeping up with it on social media etc. What do we have here going on? I am excited that the coaching seems to be very solid. Players seem to be stepping up. I don’t what is the teams identity though? How are we winning games? How many people rotate in? Who is are starting five?

Put the ball in the basket more than other team

If he keeps this up the Will Wade supporters will start jumping off the Miss River bridge
Some local LA talent is taking the bull by the horns and leading the team
Not having Cook for most of non conf schedule cost them wins
a 500 sec finish is not out of the realm of possibility which would be something to build on in year 2 and likely gets you to NIT

Cook is a game changer, team is a middle of the pack SEC team rather than a bottom feeder. Outside of Nicholls loss, other losses have been to good teams.

I have not seen much either but I can tell you from a 10000 ft observation that it looks like frankenstein syndrome. I have noticed over the last several yrs that teams that have a high rebuild rate or turnover from one yr to the next take half a season to gel and figure out what they can and cant do. On the flip side these teams that dont gel by mid Jan prolly aint going to in time for post season.

The point guard position has been stabilized by Jalen Cook and the players are playing with high effort on defense.

Play as a team, improve the 3 pt % and decrease turnovers.

Sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. At this point in the season they are losing less than they are winning but things can change quick.

Maybe everybody should’ve chilled the frick out with the first year coach.

For much of the first two months of the season they weren't good on either side of the ball. In particular, they were terrible in limiting turnovers, and struggled mightily rebounding and defending the 3. Jalen Cook's insertion into the line up once he became eligible in mid-December stabilized the PG spot and gave LSU a player to could consistently create his own offense. Something they did not have before.
Since that time LSU has played much better defensively and on the glass. Turnovers are still a BIG issue that is limiting the offense from being much better/efficient. Thus far they have a great road win at A&M where they really dominated A&M at their own game (controlling the boards). They also have two home wins over two teams (Vandy and Ole Miss) who will probably finish in the bottom 1/2 of the SEC. The one loss was a blowout at Auburn who is one of, maybe the best team in the SEC. One silver lining from that game was a second half effort that turned what probably should have been a 25-30+ point blowout in to a (reasonably) tight game late.
LSU generally plays 9-10 guys. Cook and Wright are the most consistent contributors, but everyone in the group is capable of a good game (just not consistently). Wright has become the clear leader and, at the moment, is playing like a potential All SEC player.
LSU has a winnable home game Saturday vs. A&M. After that, the schedule gets MUCH tougher with 5 of the next 7 on the road, before it (on paper) lightens up a bit in the final 6 games. A NCAA Tournament bid is still very much a pipe dream at the moment. But it is more realistic than it was two weeks ago.

They are playing better

Long story short, since Cook has been playing (the Texas game), Wright has been on fire.

It all hinges on Cook at point guard. He is the catalyst that makes things happen and makes everyone better. He has made some bad passes and shots but even still has been a positive. Wright has been playing great ball as well. If they can get tougher play out of Baker they could be really good. He likes to play away from the goal instead of underneath it where a 7 footer should be. Reed is progressing as well as Williams and Ward. Keep winning at home and steal a road victory here and there and you never know.

Better than expected, but not expected to make the tournament.

Reloaded and preseason#4

We're having a "prove it" year. Lots of guys taking a bigger role (Baker, Wright) or coming back to the SEC (Cook) who want to prove that last year does not define this year.
McMahon also is seeking to prove the doubters wrong and prove he can build a winning program.
