Draw a circle around the major metro areas first - each should have at least one home district with approx 750,000 residents. If it's purple, blue or red - so be it. Break it up by geographic or cultural regions as much as possible.

And if North Louisiana can't justify two districts with their population losses, they should not be borrowing voters from Tangipahoa or Cameron parish to keep their seats.

And Baton Rouge gets absolutely fricked in this map with the metro area being split into 4 districts - all of them based elsewhere.

Johnson (speaker of the House) has his district almost split into two by the new district 6 map, which is crazy.

Our current map is dumb. This one is even dumber.

All maps proposed are going to look stupid. They should just draw four squares and be done

So which of those colors are the areas to avoid? Seems like the colors that look like they are just connecting the dots and sprawling the map randomly are representing the hoods?

This is because the black population of the state is so widely dispersed that you can't draw a map with 2 majority black districts without a ridiculous amount of gerrymandering. It's geographically impossible.

So then the question becomes: are maps being drawn to represent the people of that area or are they being drawn to represent races?

It can't be both.

This is making the rounds on my LC-centric FB sphere. People are MELTING at being a pawn of Shreveport instead of Lafayette and "losing" Clay Higgins.

Agree, it's crazy.

However, and I am not sure it's planned this way, it might be crazy like a fox. That is, the district is SO bad as to be considered a racial gerrymander and get thrown out.

They should really just go with Mike Johnson's idea and refuse to change until all legal avenues have been exhausted.

I thought the Supreme Court threw out racial gerrymandering some years ago.

That's not why the lines are drawn that way.

Ascension is split between district 1 & 2. None is in district 6 now…. So although apart of BR metro economically, it’s not tied to its economic area…
Fight the judge, draw based on economic/ cultural basis…

This was one of the maps that was originally proposed last year. Makes more sense than this one but it puts R seats at risk.
