Yet those areas are the most neglected when it comes to transportation infrastructure (especially BR, Lafayette, and Lake Charles).

LC is pretty forward thinking with transportation infrastructure. They build South Lake Charles into 4-5 lane roadways long before the population exploded out there. We have the 210 loop.

LC is also a grid format for the most part, so there are infinite alternative routes, unlike BR/LAF which have the street layout of a Jackson Pollack painting.

They just need to tear that thing down . Build a new one.

That's the plan.

Funding it without tolls has been a challenge. It's going to happen though. Not sure if it will be 6 or 8 lanes wide but it will be a huge improvement for the area. I believe this is the preliminary design sketch:

Part of the additional expense is to widen the approaches to the bridge between the eastern and western interchanges for I-210. No point in building a significantly wider 6 or 8 lane bridge if it's still fed by a narrow, 4 lane highway.

Yeah I just don't understand why they built the bridge deck so high with such an acute angle at the top

For ships of certain heights to be permitted to pass, IIRC.

That rural grid pattern is a huge help for LC. As it develops south, it will naturally have system redundancy that it won't really have north.

The only other place in suburban south Louisiana that has that is eastern Ascension around Prarieville and Gonzales - east of Airline. It started out with a rural grid pattern - which makes it easier to build out the single entrance/exit subdivisions that people seem to like these days. The problem with AP is that there are only a few connections from there to Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

IMO we may eventually need another crossing south of I-210 somewhere around the Moss Lake area. But hopefully that will come as a broader turnpike that can run parallel to I-10 south of Lake Charles, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, etc.

I recall hearing that when I was growing up and living there. Knowing LA politics, it's probably not as bad as they are trying to make it sound. Just want billions to pocket.

Is this the one I-10 that was basically condemned?

IDK about condemned. But they've had to make more than a few emergency repairs over the years. It's in bad shape and it will soon need a lot of $$$ to keep it around.

The I-10 Bridge in LC? Naw. Internet rumors always fly and it is one of the most dangerous bridges, but that's not due to structural concerns or fear of it falling. It's dangerous for what was posted earlier: super steep incline, visibility issues, lighting issues, no shoulder, etc.

That bridge is constantly inspected/maintained and they just did a huge renovation of it when 210 was worked on and I10 had an expectation of increased traffic.

Did the funding for the new bridge get cut? Last time I checked it was a done deal.
Over the last ten years, several “done deals” in Louisiana weren’t heard of again.

Yep at one time there was some industry north of the bridge, but I’m pretty sure that’s all but gone, so no need for that steep of a bridge anymore.

Basically that’s Gauthier right now but it will need to be widened in the near future with all the growth in South LC

When Clay Higgins tries to take credit for any new infrastructure improvements in SW LA, remind him that he voted against Biden's infrastructure bill.

Yup. We call those low information voters

310 S, route would take 397 at Vinton to tank farm via Calcasieu Pt and come out at Iowa or Cameron Chloe.
Just a WAG but it would cut my commute to hackberry down to 15 min.

It was dependent on getting a toll authority set up for it.

Is there anywhere else in the country where a portion of federal interstate is tolled?

I don't like the can of worms opening here.
