Does LSU have any National Chsmpionship other than ‘58 if Saban doesn’t come to LSU?

I’ve always been a “if you build it they will come” believer is program building.
We’ll never know the answer to my question. I don’t believe we win the 2003 or 2007 titles without him so i’m thinking we may onky have that one without Sabans swing through Baton Rouge.

No doubt he got the LSU machine rolling. Anyone who says other wise is a fool. Everyone says Miles won 2007 with Saban's players.
ETA - and history isn't kind when the greats move on. Odds are against the successor maintaining that success.

You never know but I’d say more likely than not we would have remained a mid tier program. I’m not sure who else would have come along and unlocked the power in the soil here

Possibly, but we’ll never know thankfully. We need to be very appreciative for what we’ve enjoyed as sports fans. There are 120+ schools that would give anything for even a fraction of our success since Saban.

The correct question to ask is — how many Natty’s do we have if Skip takes Saban back when he asked after NFL instead of sticking with Les?

All the SEC teams stepped it up in the early 2000s. No reason to think LSU wouldn't have as well, eventually.

It's hard to admit, but I really don't think we do.
He's a dick that left us, but he's the person that laid the groundwork for what we are today.
In the end, I really think LSU will always hold a special place in his heart. It was his 1st Natty, & he knows that he turned LSU into a consistent contender.

He’s a dick for leaving us to try his hand coaching in the NFL with the Dolphins?

He's not a dick for leaving us.
He's a dick...that's what he is. He also left & ended up at Bama.

LSU went from paying coaches a few hundred thousand, to making Saban the 2nd highest paid coach in football the day he arrived in BR, with a contract that automatically made him the highest paid if he won a NC, which he did. LSU built Saban a new building, and the finest football facilities in the land, so he could out-recruit everyone and build himself into a legend. Already the highest paid coach, he was offered a raise to stay, but decided he couldn't pass up the NFL.
It was the commitment to football greatness from LSU that made Saban, and created those national championships, not the other way around. In a way, LSU is to blame for sparking the current era of absurd coaching salary inflation when it hired Saban 24 years ago.
Here's what you should be asking: how many National Championships does LSU have today if Saban stayed in Miami?

He went to bama because we told him no. Everyone leaves that part out.

I hate saban for coaching at bama but without him coming in and establishing LSU to a contender I don’t think lsu knows how to win without the groundwork he laid here.

Saban laid the groundwork at LSU to become a power. His vision that got the ball rolling

Probably not if we're honest...
tip the hat folks he was the greatest of all time...
he probably would have won 10 titles at LSU because there wouldn't be an Alabama to stop us

Does LSU win a national championship sooner if Bo Rien drives to Shreveport?
As long as we are speculating.
