I think everyone speculated on this before the season when he dropped $15 million on a house in Florida. You don't pay that kind of money for a vacation home. That a "I'm too old for this shite" retirement residence.

He's spent a decade advocating against changes that eroded his advantages and mostly won. He couldn't stop this change and couldn't get congress to pass a law.

I would love to pile on and agree with this, but the truth is it’s more about the fact that you have to spend 24/7, 365 days a year recruiting the players on your team, and getting held up by your own kids for more money every single year. That’s on top of the usual high school recruiting, coaching staff management, and game planning.
The current model of college football isn’t sustainable. Guys like Lance Heard who don’t even start shouldn’t be in the head coach’s office demanding more money or else they are leaving.

When you can no longer stack the odds, call it a career.
People talk about Saban like greatest of all time but there’s a big gap in my mind between NFL strategizing and college program strong arming. He was a decent coach. He was a great program builder. Don’t confuse them.
