I know a lot of y’all grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, back in the glory days of the arcade. Can you tell me your memories of going to the arcade and what you fondly remember the most? Was it the spot where you and your friends hung out often?

What games do you remember playing from that time, and which did you score the highest on?

Had the highest scored on Asteroids, Galaga, donkey kong and frogger. Also tron, the pinball machine.

It helped that I worked there in high school.

Don't sell the early nineties short. Huge delta between the graphics of home systems and what arcade machines could do. Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam were all HUGE arcade hits. I went all the time but was too scared to play the Asians so I sat there with a bunch of quarters and mostly just watched.

I spent a lot of time playing foosball at SpacePort in the Plaza. Also enjoyed PacMan, Centipede, and any kind of pinball machine.

I wasn't big on arcades but I do remember spending time at the one in Cortana Mall, and at the one in Don Carter's.

Arcades were basically just a Mall thing for most.

For me not being close enough to a mall to go to without someone driving me, I found arcade games at local places...and most had them. Local Time Saver always had a game near the counter, and it rotated every 6 months or so. first time I played Asteroids was there.

Later we had a K&B open nearby and for some odd reason they set up an arcade game there back by the magazine section. tons of games rotated through there.

Joust
Mario Brothers
Donky Kong
Q*Bert
Journey (The band had a game)
But my favorite was Gyruss and it stayed there a while and I got good at it. Eventually that became "my" game and I'd seek it out at arcades and then own the game for 45 minutes stretches.

I keep threatening to get a full size cabinet made and sit it in my office.

We had what was mostly a pool hall about a mile from the house when I was a kid, but they had about 10 arcade games. My buddies and I wore that place out around ages 12-13. Pretty sure the Mike Tyson punchout game was our game of choice back then.
The bike ride there was mostly through a neighborhood, but we did have to ride on a busy highway part of the way. No real shoulder of course.

When we started cutting grass for money, it was glorious to go play games for a few hours then ride over to the pizza hut.

One time at the Esplanade Mall arcade, I beat the TMNT arcade game. 12 year old me was walking on clouds all day.

Lakeside Mall used to have video games spread throughout the mall proper.

The Plaza Lakeforest Mall arcade was the GOAT though.

In the mid-80's there was a rundown arcade on the corner of W Chimes and Lake. Major Havoc and Cliff Hanger were my addictions.

Defender and Pole Position at Howard Brothers in Baker, LA. Then I'd grab a quart sized carton of rimfire .22lr and some Whoppers.
