MS Getting $11 Million for 31 Electric School Buses and Charging Stations

Another example of the government being the government. Stated they anticipated $400 million, but handing out $1 billion. Must have adjusted for that inflation.

“For that kid who walks down their driveway, they’re going to jump into a bus that no longer pumps those toxins into their lungs. They no longer will hear that roar of a diesel engine,” said Ali Zaidi, White House national climate advisor.

The Environmental Protection Agency is awarding nearly $1 billion to school districts across 37 states, including Mississippi, to purchase electric and zero-emission school buses.

EPA anticipates awarding approximately $400 million in competitive grant funding under the Clean School Bus (CSB) Grants Program Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The program solicited applications nationwide for a grant competition to fund the replacement of existing school buses with clean and zero-emission (ZE) school buses.

Another bus barn full of inoperable EV buses.

Is there some data out there on bus exhaust toxins and lung function of public school kids?

There is data about brain function and believers of the green new deal I you want that.

Imagine complaining about this

Can you imagine that getting a call from the school? We’re sorry your bus driver forgot to plug in his bus, you need to come pick your kid up. Lol.

If a state wants to give out a grant that’s fine. The fed giving out a subsidy for 31 busses is fricking stupid, like you.

Yes but we can't be shown it and we have to trust them. Fredo Cuomo will fill us in later on the details.

People are complaining because we knew where this ends.

Meanwhile, the Twin Cities' fleet has proven comparatively unreliable. In Minneapolis-St. Paul, electric buses have broken down at twice the rate of traditional diesel-powered buses. All of this leaves the general impression that electric buses lack efficiency and do not meet riders' needs.
The most significant aspect of this story, however -- or at least the one that makes it relevant to readers outside of Minnesota -- involves the perennial unholy alliance between government and business. In 2021, Metro Transit received a federal grant to purchase a fleet of electric buses from the California-based manufacturer Proterra. Duluth received a similar grant in 2015.
Earlier this year, Proterra filed for bankruptcy despite a public endorsement from President Joe Biden as recently as March 2022. Now, in addition to malfunctioning or inadequate buses, the Minnesota cities have no immediate vendor.
If this story sounds familiar, it is because affluent Teton County, Wyoming, had a similar experience with Proterra. That cold-weather county's entire electric bus fleet failed, resulting in continued reliance on its diesel fleet. Of course, Teton County's per-household wealth ranks first in the nation.
Predictably, Biden won Teton County by nearly 40 points in the 2020 election. Biden also received Minnesota's 10 electoral votes, winning both Hennepin and St. Louis counties, home to the Twin Cities and Duluth, respectively.
In sum, urban Minnesotans support Democrats, so it stands to reason that they would invest in electric buses. Furthermore, it makes no difference that the buses often fail to run properly and do not suit riders' needs. Electric vehicles have nothing to do with the people who ride in them.

Them kids will be heading home regularly when those buses aren’t able to pick them up

Only $355,000 each. What a bargain.

In other words the government is flushing $11 million down the toilet
Posted on 1/9/24 at 12:36 pm to the808bass
Yeah I can see that. It's surprising one of the major EV players like Rivian or Tesla hasn't attempted to enter the bus market. If they made one I would be more likely to support things like this.

Man I just love paying taxes.

You do have to add in the county co-pay for electric busses which is pegged at 80 percent the cost of a new diesel
Posted on 1/9/24 at 12:46 pm to Powerman
If Tesla and Rivian can only get a few hundred miles from a charge on a compact car there’s no way they’d invest into this and that’s why they haven’t. The subsidies would be in the billions just for R&D for mass scale and production. Then it will cost the purchaser more than these 31 buses are valued at. Which in turn raises your taxes when we have perfectly fine buses currently.

Too bad we dont have a national agency to take a close look at where this big money goes. I suspect kickbacks, theft and maybe a way to fund antifa and the patriot front for election year.

This is barely a drop in the bucket in government spending
With an income of 170K a year your contribution to this would equate to about 5 dollars for the year
