5 years is a long time for an NFL coach.

IF Kirby were to leave UGA would probably slide Schumann in the HC spot then you can tag Muschamp in as DC.

Bama thinks they are getting Schumann but he is not leaving UGA aside from a HC gig.

uh huh and HE AND SABAN CAN CALL A DEFENSE. saban has always been the de facto DC at his stops because they run his schemes.

saban had best defense in clev eland with belicheck and a good D in his 2 years with dolphins. he can coach D. how was his recruiting on those two teams?

1. Kirby leaves for the Falcons.
2. Kirby realizes the NFL isn't for him after two years.
3. Nick retires and Alabama hires Kirby.

wouldn't that be the most Alabama football thing ever

Why? He was with Saban in the NFL.

I would think that college coaches are generally way more open to pro jobs these days than before… I imagine they may even translate better as GMs because of the things modern CFB is throwing at them.

Managing money & a roster in the NFL seems like it could actually be easier. UGA football is stable but you could make an argument that the NCAA as a whole is sitting on a bubble.

I wouldn’t be shocked.

No he’s not. He doesn’t want bring in a bunch of mercenaries and he doesn’t want to ruin team culture by paying rookies a ton of money and ruin the culture.

The frick? He’s got a great record against anyone not named Saban and even then he has a good record vs top 5 and top 10 teams.

I can see it now. 2 losing seasons with the Falcons. Saban retires. Georgia has had 2 10+ win seasons with a new coach. Kirby goes to Bama and wins 6 more national titles over the next 15 years.....

Nah …they may bring Kirby in for a chat, but I don’t believe Kirby would leave UGA right now.

I suspect they are pursuing Belichick

Not apples to apples at all. There was no transfer portal or NIL when when Saban went to and returned from the NFL. The OP’s who point was that the modern way college football is structured makes it 365 gig. Saban was not in that situation in the 2000s.

In a league where the move is to get a young, smart offensive mind, bringing in a 71 year old whose reputation is at least in part built on lucking into drafting the GOAT QB near the end of the draft and riding him through the vast majority of his lengthy career would be a very Falcons move

So he has a great record when he has a talent advantage, like the guy you quoted said?

Not knocking Kirby but when you have the best talent among everybody else wining is easy. That will not be the case with Atlanta....

The nil and portal are detrimental. They essentially have to re recruit the entire roster every year and new recruits at the same time. At least in the nfl you have contracts. College football is out of control right now and I could absolutely see him taking a stab at the nfl and give college football a chance to course correct so to speak.
