Iraq To US: Time For You To GTFO Of Our Country

Baghdad has accused Washington of breaching its sovereignty with yet another summary assassination
quote:
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani has promised to launch a process to expel the international coalition forces from the country, after a US airstrike killed a high-ranking militia commander in Baghdad four years after the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
quote:
A US airstrike hit the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces, an Iraqi state-sponsored umbrella organization composed of dozens of armed factions, on Thursday. At least two people were killed in the attack, including Mushtaq Taleb al-Saidi, the leader of Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba (HHN), which Washington has listed as a terrorist group allegedly backed by Iran.
quote:
“The Popular Mobilization Forces represent an official presence affiliated with the state, subject to it, and an integral part of our armed forces,” the Iraqi prime minister stated on Friday. “We condemn the attacks targeting our security forces, which go beyond the spirit and letter of the mandate that created the international coalition. We affirm our principled position in ending the existence of the international coalition after the justifications for its existence have ended,” he said, adding that Baghdad seeks to restore full “national sovereignty over the land, sky, and waters of Iraq. We will start the dialogue through the bilateral committee that was formed to determine the arrangements for the end of this presence.”
quote:
The Pentagon insisted that Baghdad itself had invited the American forces to help fight Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), and the 2,500 troops who are still in the country a decade later are free to act in “self-defense.” Press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder defended the January 4 strike as a “necessary, proportionate act,” amid a wave of attacks on American military installations in the region.
quote:
American military bases in Iraq, as well as illegal outposts in neighboring Syria, have come under drone and missile strikes on more than 110 occasions since October, amid regional tensions stemming from the Israeli war in Gaza. While the attacks were mostly carried out by unidentified parties, Washington has accused Tehran of pulling the strings behind the scenes and has reserved the right to retaliate as it deems fit.

RT is shite but we need to GTFO of Iraq and let the Saudis and Iranians fight over it like a piece of meat. It's going to happen anyway and all we are doing is putting our soldiers in the middle of a war that isn't going to end in our lifetimes.
We don't even need their oil.
We don't even need their oil.

That’s a Neocon’s wet dream.

No need to be there. Just leave.

In this, I support Iraq. My philosophy is that we should pull all of out troops and shutter bases in all of the middle east countries, including Israel, with the explicit understanding that if they do not control their terrorists and Americans are attacked anywhere, there will be hellfire and brimstone.
The age of American nation building needs to be over.

I think the idea is to make every effort to avert American deaths from terrorism, primarily here at home, but no less important in regards to Americans abroad as well. We’re specifically talking international jihadist terrorism in this context of course, nearly exclusively of the Islamic sort. It takes a bit of work over seas in certain parts of the world to lower the risks in the homeland. Now, that’s not to say that an overhaul of that policy may not be in order, but as a general matter is that a useless practice/policy? As they say, “to handle them over there so we don’t have to handle them over here”?

Once again The US Government way too stupid to understand why these nations have a Saddam or Hosni or Assad.

If you’re ok with the ethnic cleansing and Kurds no longer existing, sure.
If not, tap your brakes a bit.

Just curious, In your mind, when was the last legitimate terrorist attack on Americans? And what is an appropriate dollar amount and risk we should offer to stop this threat?

Surprisingly, compassionate conservatism was just a ruse for foreign adventurism resulting in declining U.S. influence. Good job, Bush.

It’s been a little while. Precisely the same amount of time that this was our policy in Afghanistan and elsewhere in the region. Probably not by coincidence.

Can we get all military equipment out before leaving this time?

So im trying to catch up on this, US killed an Iranian leader in IRAQ and Iraq is pissed?
Posted on 1/7/24 at 9:08 am to LuckyTiger
And how many billions in gear, ammo, service dogs and vehicles are we going to leave this time?

Agreed. If we were to pull out now, within 5 years Iraq and Iran would be at each other's throats once again which may well cause Iran to start pulling back on funding of wider-spread terrorism in order to focus more funds on their own border conflicts.

Yes.
There are tons of Shias in Iraq and the Iraqi government doesn’t want the US blowing them up. Especially the ones they are working with in an attempted constructive manner.

Iraq is just a puppet of Iran at this point. The real fight is between Iran and Saudi Arabia. Still, we need to pack our shite and GTFO as we no longer have strategic interests in that region. Let the Indians, Chinese, Japanese, and Europeans fight over their oil for a change instead of having us do it for them.

The region has been at war over religion for over 2,000 years.
What do you think will change?
I agree we should get out of the nation building business but having a military presence in the area is unfortunately necessary to keep these goat fricking pagans in check.
Sad, but true, reality.
