People are insane but the system rarely penalizes these people and they find a way to manage themselves. In some ways I envy their idgaf attitude, but it makes the world a worse place in the aggregate.


A lot of women will spend the money believing a man will one day be the money guy and saver while she splurges on fashion products and cosmetic procedures galore.

Let's assume for the sake of discussion that men and women are equally allotted along a bell curve from 1-10 in overall attractiveness. If women "won't settle" and men "enable", you have a bunching problem. For the sake of ease, let's just say for illustrative purposes that women "won't settle" for anything less than two scales above them in general attractiveness and men will "enable" women two scales below them. So a woman who is a 5 is reaching for a male 7 and a male 7 is willing to reach down to a female 5.

What that means in practice across the population that any man 2 and below can't find a partner because a woman 1 is reaching for 3 or better. At the top of the range, women 8, 9, and 10 are all reaching for male 10s. But there aren't enough of those to go around, so they either stay single or unhappily slide down the scale to 8s and 9s.

If people were robots, this would balance itself out by readjusting expectations. Because humans aren't robots, you end up with a ton of people bitter and unhappy that they are "waiting for someone who deserves them". Sometimes it works out for them; sometimes it doesn't. The problem is that society cheer-leads them for being so brave and independent.
