The show clearly has an agenda, which is distracting because it's not organic, give and take... It's just one-sided and it sticks out for no valuable reason...dropping things in here and there that don't add to the story.
That's why I said the writing is bad. It has motivations beyond telling a good story...and that's A Force Awakens disaster in the making.
And the opening Rudolph, Santa's Reindeer who couldn't fly was pretty lame and almost painful to watch.
To each his own but this seems sub-par quality, even to Season 2.

CGI was bad on if, but there is some precedence for herd animals leaping from cliffs. Most famously, of course, were NA hunts where they woild drive Buffalo off cliffs to kill and harvest them. However, it’s also happened evidently spontaneously with other herd animals like sheep:

Still weird and not sure what to make of it.

I mean we could go back and forth and a lot of the things that you don't like are annoying as hell and happen way too often in TV nowadays for my liking, but you are nitpicking it to death.
The dad was on his phone, his mind was clearly on something else for a minute. That does not make him incompetent. I mean they were at a potential murder scene and were moving evidence and touching things without gloves and all of this without taking a single photo. It's a cop TV, they are always doing things wrong. There were things far worse as far as incompetence goes than showing the dad has other things on his mind as well.
I honestly don't think the son is submissive to his wife. He literally walked away from her while she was trying to bone. It's kind of the exact opposite of being submissive.
How are you going to say that climate change had nothing to do with it when that is one of the things they were researching there. I mean scientist do research climate change It was mentioned one time and never brought back up again. If they end up dwelling on that or making it a focus of the story, then sure, get mad. But as of right now your mad about something that has no bearing on the story or something that will ever even be mentioned again.

First episode was fine. I'll keep watching.

As far as the herd of caribou goes, the other poster pointed out there has been evidence of such happenings, and I would add the beaching of whales as another example.
Just not sure where that’s going. I watched it twice in order to pick up as many clues as I could. This thread has covered most of that
If you can ignore the typical over the top HBO agendas relating to sexuality and race, there’s probably a good story to be told. Everyone wondering about “She” will probably turn out to be Mother Earth or some nonsense
Curious about the one eyed polar bear and how they tie that in with the child’s hand that awakens Foster and is later shown submerged under frozen lake.
Guess they could walk the polar bear stuff back to dream states or something. Really impossible to tell just how far fetched this story will get

Wow, I’ll stop wasting my time with you

I started it last night and laughed out loud at the CGI, then got distracted and figured I'd wait and watch later. I don't know if there's spoilers in this thread and don't want to read it, so what's the verdict? Is it worth getting into?

What the frick is wrong with people? Why are they doing this grotesque self mutilation to themselves?
Do they REALLY think it looks attractive?
They have to know it's a clear signal that they are mentally and/or emotionally fricked up right???
Those things are cultural. Indigenous Alaskans have been doing that for thousands of years.

For people asking about the opening and the meaning; the director and writer from that podcast said it was a callback to what Rust said in S1 about light and dark in the world and dark last longer
It was a period of brief light with the Caribou and then darkness comes and she said it’s saying eventually the darkness will come
Kind of stretch to me but just wanted to clarify what it meant

It’s terrible. I posted earlier in the thread and I’m so offended by how terrible the 10th grade dialogue that I figured I would mention it again. To be clear, I’m not talking about the “agenda” people are bickering about in the thread. Overall, I feel like a child wrote the dialogue.
The awful CGI and acting comes in a close second place.

Well I wasn't going to watch this anyway but watched enough to know I'm def out.
For anybody who wants to watch a winter wonderland mystery crime strangeish show try - Fortitude.
I'm rewatching it and it is miles better than this + a much better cast.

Having not watched the show I have to assume the character is an eskimo. So, OK, I guess there was a need to have them have that shite.
Now explain why the slapdick who made my cafe aulait who grew up in Spring and couldn't find Alaska on a map looks like they face planted in to a tacklebox.

I got the impression that the Dad has some issues that have resulted in him being the way he is about the files (among other things). But not that he was necessarily incomptent or lazy.
As far as the son, I didn't get the impression he was ignorant either. Just that he didn't want his kid to hear "scary" stories (as he rightfully pointed out) even if they're part of the kid's culture. He also shows promise in the first episode as a young police officer learning about detective work.

Indigenous Alaskan, yes. And for them it's reclaiming their culture. In the 19th and 20th century, they were banned from being able to have their cultural tattoos in boarding schools they were forced into for assimilation. It was a way to mark tribes, fertility, coming of age, etc.

Because he's a dumbass and has nothing to do with the characters we're discussing here. So I'm sure you can go bitch on the OT about that guy.

The dad is in on the cover-up of the girl's murder. He's in the pocketbook of the mining company.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it goes deeper (and higher up) than that (like S3). But agreed. He’s not being made to look incompetent because white man bad.

Just started it . Already has a black female cop with tats on neck and piercings in cheek in Alaska. Makes perfect sense
