I will watch it. I have no expectation that it will live up to Season 1 or even Season 3 of True Detective, but it'll still probably be better than 95% of the other shite on TV right now.

The facts as I see them. feel free to add (or correct me):
1) Original murder victim had chin tat and missing tongue (not sure if we found tongue) and possibly missing parka tied to the facility
2) Trooper’s Sister has chin tat. Events prior to whatever happened at the facility end with ominous statement of “she’s awake.” Is she “she?” “She’s awake” is supernaturally echoed to the Trooper later.
3) Jodie’s daughter isn’t hers. Is Dad the ghost?
4) Deputy Dad is defensively hoarding case files, and seems to be dabbling in human trafficking (was the blue room a reference to anything from previous seasons?). Prone to be bribed by blow jobs from drunk, fat nasties. His son seems to be attempting to overcome his father’s shame by doing right, even avoiding sex with the best looking member of the community we’ve seen in order to work on something.
5) Trooper may be trying to get pregnant.

I must have missed this. How do we know her daughter isn't hers?

I enjoyed it. Nice setup for the season and foreshadowing. Love the setting itself and the callbacks to the Dyatlov Pass.

When they returned back home after dealing with the drunk driver, she said, "You know you don't have to raise me" and referred to Jodie not owing her "real dad" some kind of debt. Clues also point to her "real dad" probably dying in some kind of drunk driving accident, since the drunken driver (that really angered Jodie) is what triggered the whole conversation.

Welp... one thing I've learned from reading this thread... half the people in it watch television about as well as my wife does. A bunch of you must be multi-tasking on your phones while watching (like my wife), because you aren't following what's happening for shite.

I just listened to an interview with the writer and director on the Ringer pod. She said she met with Jodie Foster and went through the character and she was depressed and suicidal and foster didn’t want to play that.

Foster suggested she’s a racist cop that’s always busting balls and an a-hole.

There ya go. She probably told the black cop to say the two lines about her being a white woman and making race a thing out of it.

I enjoyed the episode. Was pretty surprised when Evangeline was riding ol boy because I for sure thought she was going to be gay. She knew what she was doing on the D though

Did it give any details about who Liz's "daughter" is? Towards the end she said something like "you know you don't have to be a mom to me" or something similar. I was getting pretty sleepy there at the end and was wondering if I missed a detail. Almost like Liz might have been dating her dad or something and he was killed in a car accident and she ended up still raising her as her child. There's obviously some car accident trauma there. Need to read an episode recap.

Also, was the opening scene portraying a herd of caribou seeing the sun go down and commit mass suicide by jumping off a cliff?

Weirdest part to me. I get you're going for a supernatural element (I don't think it will end up being supernatural), but that was just odd. If there is some supernatural stuff then I guess it makes sense, but that's not happening in real life

“This show does not do that, so save it for another thread.”

Only about 80% of the show. White people bad, incompetent and feminine men, female characters who are really just men being played by women, lesbian pedophile, climate change, activist good/mine workers bad, everyone in charge of anything is female. But no none of that in this show.

Thought Foster was excellent. Loving the scenery and the constant darkness. You never know if they’re having a drink at 10am or pm.

The CGI is awful.

White people bad

Out of all the white people in the show, which of them are bad? Honest question.

quote:

incompetent and feminine men

Of the two main men, neither of them are incompetent or feminine. The son is a normal kid with a wife and baby but inexperienced/new at his job. The dad has clearly got something going on that is part of the intrigue of the story but he's not feminine, that's just how John Hawkes is as an actor.

female characters who are really just men being played by women,

So she's straight but your mad that she isn't hot. As a straight man, yea, I wish she was hotter, but the majority of female police officers are not hot. That's just a fact.

quote:

lesbian pedophile

I mean I'm assuming the kids are around the same age. I can't imagine them making the one girl 18+ years old and having a cop "mom" but having her ok with an sex with a minor situation.

quote:

climate change,

Are you serious? The mentioning of some scientist researching climate change one time for 1/2 a second is a trigger for you. You don't be lieve in climate change, whatever, a lot of people don't. But are you seriously upset that some people on a TV are mentioned to be researching it? Come on dude.

quote:

activist good/mine workers bad,

The mine workers were not being made out to be bad

My god some of yall are so soft.

Yea there were some really cool scenes/cinematography. Was thinking that during the episode and then the next scene was Liz driving out to the crime scene and it was an overhead shot with mainly darkness but her headlights were light up the roadway. Was a really good look.

For sure. The caribou scene was just bad.

The dad is clearly incompetent, hes playing on the cell phone at a murder scene and letting a drunk woman out of jail because they’re screwing. The son is clearly the submissive to his wife who also cuts down white people. The Alaskan trooper makes multiple anti white comments. Her frick buddy is also a feminine male while she is acting like a man the entire episode. Of course they’re not the same age which is why the 15 year olds mother kept repeating “she’s only 15. They use climate change for no reason as when they investigated the facility and the young cop was reading what it was for climate change had nothing to do with it. And yes the mine workers were painted as evil “hateful” people but at this point you’re just being dishonest. Nobody’s soft, what I pointed out is fact but again you know that so you try to spin what I said even ti the point of lying. Typical
