Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the Missouri woman who plotted to kill her mother, who had abused her and forced her to fake serious illnesses in a case that sparked a frenzy and inspired a TV series, was released from prison early Thursday.

Blanchard, 32, was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center at 3:30 a.m., the Missouri Department of Corrections said. She was granted parole and released three years before her original release date, a spokesperson said.

Gypsy’s abusive late mother, DeeDee, is suspected of starving her own mother for whom she was primary care provider. She fled Louisiana with 14 year old Gypsy in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for Missouri.

Served 8 out of 10 year prison sentence for it, and says she felt freer in prison than she ever did living with her mother.

ETA: Her father and stepmother in Louisiana kept close contact with her while she was in prison. She also married a special education teacher from Louisiana who picked her up upon release. So she is likely coming home to Louisiana instead of remaining in Missouri.
