Had never seen more than 10 mins of the film, ever.
Takwaways:
- Production quality was insane. Sound, photography, acting, score, etc all stood out immensely. The films has better production quality than any Hollywood production I've seen in years. And it's 35 yrs old.
Donner really was a phenomenal big budget mainstream glossy director.
- Peak Bill Murray. Did not realize he had not been in a film since Ghostbusters 4 yrs earlier. This kicked off his run from 88-93-ish, which is an all timer.
- Much darker film than I thought it would be. I know the story is actually pretty dark anyway, but this had that creepy late-80s hellish feel in it for some big chunks.
- Alfre Woodard in a supporting role almost steals the movie. The amount of high quality character and supporting American actors we used to have is stunning and so glaring now watching New films.
- The film itself is a bit of a mess in parts, yes, but I really miss these types of big budget movies. I could absolutely see the movie being a hit around Christmastime in 1988.
- Enjoyed the movie overall. Murray at this stage is just so hard to beat.

Watched this in the theatre when it was released. I was about 9. I loved the dancing girls and still do.

Thumbs way up. The scenes between Murray and Bobcat and especially Murray and Carol Kane are priceless.

I never got the “Brrrrrum bum bum” line that he and the cab driver say at the same time.

Good review.
“Well Charles Dickens would have wanted to see her nipples then.”
So true.
Probably it and Elf are my favorites.

David Johansen (aka Buster Poindexter) as the Ghost of Christmas Past tells Murray that "garden slugs got more out of life than you".
Murrays response? "Name one."
and at the homeless shelter Murray's impression of Richard Burton in Cleopatra is uncanny

Seriously though, no 80s kid wasn’t disturbed when Frank looked under the Ghost of Christmas Future’s robe in the elevator
