I am a traditionalist - I like old style football and have old style beliefs. I used to think it was terrible when guys didn't play in bowl games - letting down your teammates, not honoring your commitments, etc.

But in today's new college football world, I have come full circle and changed my mind on this topic. First, the playoffs have made all other bowl games meaningless. That sucks but it's true. Second, there is pretty good argument to allow the next guy up (ie, Nussmeier in our case) to get that valuable game experience and the 15 days of extra practice. I do like that - Nuss needs it and the staff can evaluate him and others against a decent defense.

Most importantly, if I was a kid in the position of Jayden Daniels or other tops picks - despite my deeply held beliefs about team and commitment, I personally might make the decision not to play in a meaningless bowl game. The chance of injury is not zero - and a serious injury could cost me 35 to 40 million bucks! That's the going ret for a top 5 NFL pick and Daniels is projected there.

And it's not only the money - a serious injury could end the career you spent your whole life preparing for.

I know many of you guys believe in team and commitment and other things that are more important than money - but take a second to think about it. Maybe the reality is that you would skip the bowl too!

Take the NIL money, buy a 50 million dollar insurance contract that pays if injured and

GO BOWLING!! If they do not pay

GET GORDON & GET 'ER DONE!!

Jayden is worth more to our brand going forward than anything involving this meaningless bowl game. He needs to get ready for the draft and represent LSU on Sundays like so many others.

The bowl pairing probably had something to do with it as well. If we were playing in a bowl with an opponent that could increase LSU's ANYTHING, he might have stayed.

If Nuss is good as half of the people think he is, we should be just fine and JD knows it. So why risk anything. A win won't raise LSU's rank, recruiting, etc...

An injury to JD or a loss to Wisc, could only hurt.

LOL! I don’t think there is much to do to get ready for it.

I miss the AP/UPI. The BCS didn’t solve it. Hell, we won it with 2 losses and 2004 Auburn got the FSU sodomizing without lube. I miss New Year’s Day bowls and the traditional tie ins. We’re still arguing and 12 teams will dilute it more. I miss the sec title>sugar bowl> new years.

I don’t care anymore. It doesn’t matter. The bowl game doesn’t matter. It’s probably worth more to this team to let Nuss get a game under his belt than Jayden to pad stats on an already epic season for him. And he’s got a bunch of money on the table.

Best of luck, and all aboard the Nuss Bus

This is the dumbest argument of them all. What does a 4 team playoff have to do with making all this bowl games meaningless? In the BCS era, only one game “mattered” yet all of the players wanted to play in the bowl game and get their “bowl swag”. Maybe it’s NIL they ruined the bowl games because players don’t need the thousands of dollars of free gifts from the bowl sponsors. Remember this line, “those poor kids just want a few bucks in their pockets to have a burger at McDonalds”.

I am also a traditionalist. Being a team first guy and upholding commitments are valuable qualities that everyone should have. Neither of said qualities are more valuable than 30 million American dollars when the thing you’d be risking them for is mostly meaningless. Now we have a chance for our future qb to get a few extra weeks of first team reps and an extra game against a quality team. Jayden skipping the game is the best thing for him and the best thing for lsu. There’s not much argument against that.

Sorry, disagree. Still love JD5. Just have a different opinion and interpretation of certain values. He's a grown man and allowed to make his own decisions.

I don't disagree, but the games are no more meaningless now than they ever have been.

Was winning the A&M game worth $40 million? What about Georgia State?

Those games helped him become the 40 million dollar man. He had more eyes on him the last few weeks of the season than ever before in his life. And he put on a show. Now that he reached that point, things are different. He can only devalue himself in the bowl game. He was still building value in the other two.

a lot of words to say…. no shite the potential number 1 pick shouldn’t need to play in the name of random bank or product bowl game.

Also for the dumb asses, wtf do we care if he plays so much? Other than getting to see his awesomeness one more time, he is should be able to whoop their arse without him and it helps our team more next year if Nuss and the OL get a game of working with him.

Truthfully they should just separate the power 5 and the group of 5 into separate divisions. Expand the playoffs to 16 teams in each division and have a division 1 and 2 champion and get rid of the retarded pop tart bowl and the like
