this board never ceased to amaze me. People complain about signing 3 star players and people complain when we don't sign 3 star players.

The key to understanding this is to realize that “this board” is not a person. There are a lot of different people posting here and they have varied opinions.

You sign ballers. They just have a knack for making plays. The measurable don’t mean much when a kid is a baller and Defensive MVP in 5A and 3 year starter in a team like Ruston.

Sam Mills was 5'9" and 230. Not saying he is as good as Sam Mills but it does make the case for this kid to have an offer.

Which means he may be 5'8" and 200lbs. The recruiting sites have him listed at 6' or 6'0.5" at 220lbs so 5'10" may be the truth.

Like the late great Sam Mills. Jim Mora called him the greatest player he ever coached.

Wasn’t a big Saints fan but I thought Mr. Mills was awesome. The kid looks to be real hardnosed football player. He needs some flexibility and polishing. But in todays game height and speed to cover is a must. Glad I don’t have to make those choices.

Faster and you can move him to safety. But that's too small for a linebacker. 2 down guys are being phased out too

There are exceptions. Arkansas recently had an All SEC linebacker of similar stature.

Two of the best slightly undersized LBs I've ever seen are Sam Mills and Dat Nguyen.

he's a bit short (which I don't think is a big deal) and he seems a little stiff with not great lateral agility.

This creates a very low ceiling for pass coverage.

LBs have to cover in the modern game.

And played in the 80s

Sam Mills would be exposed in today's game.

*ETA: before boomers freak out. If Sam Mills had today's training blah blah blah sure, he could have theoretically made it. But the actual Sam Mills of the 80s is the comparison being used.
