Tacoma > Colorado by a wide margin IMO

*and I'm a GM guy (Sierra)

My son has 2023 Canyon Elevation and he loves it. Only a 4 cylinder turbo but he totes my 22' Skeeter Bay Boat with no problem.

I’d say taco but that’s based on the 2nd Gen trucks. Don’t know anything about the car motor version or the newest turbo 4 banger.

This is never a legit question.

The Tacoma is ten times the truck and will hold its value much better than the gm product. Come on man

You have another 140k in it easy.

No bullshite.

If it were me I'd change all the fluids including the differentials and transfer case (if 4wd) and tune it up.

Hand it over.

Edut: make it a project with your son and he'll learn how to work on it and have ownership then.

The latest redesign of the Chevy/GMC are really nice. The new Tacomas coming out (2024) don't inspire me to buy.

To last and be capable offroad? A 3.4l tacoma. 4.0l frontier. A 4.0l tacoma. A 2.7 tacoma. Or new frontier.

The gm and ford don't deserve to be in the conversation.

It’s just getting broken in

I have 122k miles on my 2016 and it drives better than ever. Love that damn truck.

I love my Tundra but I’ve never liked the Tacoma so personally I’d rather the Colorado. But reliability and resale are better with the Taco.

Brother, I just went through this exact thing and ended up buying a 2018 Tacoma in October. Unless it’s the radio, there is zero reason to exclude a 2017-2019 Tacoma when looking. It is 100% mileage based and I would argue a 2018 with 50k miles is in better shape than a 2020 with the same mileage. I would 100% go with the Taco over a Colorado. I’m just saying, don’t limit it to 2020 and above. That opens up the options more for him. Trust me. I’ve done the research.

The Tacoma has the highest resale value of all vehicles.

Not true

It’s top 5 but Toyota Corolla and a few others have it beat.

Can’t go wrong with either. Tacoma will typically fetch more in resale, but Chevy puts together a nice product as well.

regear?

Unless the 33s were OEM, they are larger than stock so yea, probably feels slow.

I just wish Toyota would keep up with the technology war. GM is going to have more acceleration and better infotainment. Better sound system etc.

That turbo 4cyl will get it pretty good

My FIL had the last gen Tacoma (2016 I think) and it rode like shite.

But as stated, resale and reliability for Toyota is ridiculous

You're better off buying new at that point.....but I wouldn't touch any of the new turbo I4's.
