I have an old 30-06 that kicks like a mule. What is the best recoil pad?

TIA

Limbsaver, decent chance there is a precision fit for your gun so you don’t have to get the grind to fit

They make light load 30-06 rounds. May could try that before buying a pad.

What weight bullet are you shooting?

It could just be the gun. I’ve shot 150gr bullets in an -06 out of one of those beginner combo budget rifles (savage, ruger American, even the tikka t3s), and they kick worse than a magnum. They’re often hollow plastic, front heavy, with no thought for comfort, albeit more than accurate enough for most hunters. Upgrading the stock recoil pad is a cheap fix, (less than a box of bullets) and much easier than messing with stocks. Personally I don’t mess around with switching bullets (165gr Nosler Partitions till I die)

This is the right answer. Put one on my Tikka .308 and it significantly cut down on felt recoil.

Limbsaver.com

The guy from Backfire is releasing a new style recoil pad that's supposed to be the bee's knees but they're only selling them for Tikka, Bergara, MDT, & CVA rifles currently.

this probably doesnt work for your gun but im just sharing it.

Backfire Recoil pad

I watched the Youtube video and it has a lot of testing baked into it, very cool. I put limbsavers on my other rifles when the factory pad started melting.

You could always brake it and cut the recoil in half.

Are you a kid? I shoot my rifle like 3 times a year at deer. Recoil has never been a factor.

Wait until you shoot 3.5” buckshot.

Baw ain’t no kid, he is just scared of that recoil. If this doesn’t get fixed, he will think bout it before the shot and may miss. Mental hurdle for a perfect shot.

I can’t recall the terminology but there’s something gun smith’s do with adding something to the bedding area that helps. I know a guy just had it done to his wife rifle. Also, a break if you’re deaf or wear ear protection. Lighter ammo helps a bit too.
