I mean, we’re definitely not as talented as we historically have been. But we’re also not so untalented to where we have a historically bad defense.

Not playing Weeks and Womack was insane, and our default scheme was a soft joke

Even with us playing soft zone on 1st and 2nd down, we proved to be moderately successful and force a few 3rd and long situations every game. Then we'd play 25 yds off the ball and give up 12 yds on an 8 and out or a button hook. It was infuriating. Get in their face to at least prove that it won't work.

Obviously, no one on the defensive side of the ball can recruit. We cannot compete in the SEC if we can't recruit all 4 and 5 star players on defense. With just an average defense, we would be right in the middle of the playoffs.

And he still had better personnel than Georgia State. Yet we gave up touchdowns on 2 of their first 3 possessions. He could not defend the fcs schools. Furthermore, how many schools or individuals set personal offensive bests against us. No, it's the scheme and coaching that is lacking.

I’m not one to defend House but there were serious personnel issues on the defense.

Injuries, transfers not panning out for various reasons being forced to play freshmen who weren’t ready. All of that is legit.

But House’s coaching magnified all of those issues.

Scheme, Scheme, Scheme! The second half, and Kelly’s postgame comments, prove that!

Absolutely, add to the fact that House never made changes to the defensive scheme to compensate.

Look, if House had simply tried new things, this excuse would be valid. Game in and out it was the same gameplan and personnel with no changes. Only injuries forced personnel changes.
exactly. House is paid millions - and coaches all over the country have to deal with injuries.

A good coach adjusts his scheme to fit the guys he has on the field and the opponent he's playing.

Any coach can succeed with elite talent. But the true mark of a coach is what he does with lesser talent.

And it looked to me that we just did the same thing, week after week, with no adjustment.

Way too much air in the defense all year long.

Agreed. There is a big difference between unprepared players, and players who are athletically outmatched. Our guys were more often than not lost. If we were doing the right things but were physically dominated, thats okay. Just means the system is already in place but we need better guys. Total coaching failure all around on defense. We didn’t have our best guys on the field during crucial drives. Just insanity.

True but the defense was bad ALL YEAR. Watching film shows the defense was even worse than initially thought. On a lot of 3rd and shorts, the defense lined up in soft zone coverage and typically conceded the 1st down all season long. On 3rd & 1 (4th and 1 as well) the defense would go with 4 DL's and the LB's and safeties would be 6 to 8 yards off the ball. This was especially dumb when teams brought in their heavy packages. Schematically, LSU lined up and executed in a manner that made no sense.

As the OP mentioned, this team has been unable to cover RB's out the backfield and it's been all season long. There's been no progression. Not to mention how we've seen backups play sparingly and show flashes, only to see the starters garner all the PT looking less athletic. Speights has no business playing in the SEC. He can't tackle to save his life, over-pursues constantly, always out of position, and overall plays soft. Burns talks shyt every play and typically gets drug downfield for 3 to 5 yards before making a tackle.

All in all, House system isn't very good because it appears that it isn't very "teachable". We've seen enough to know he doesn't make adjustments and no problems ever get fixed.

Tell us about your day to day interactions with Womack and all the other defensive players. Tell us about how you are involved in breaking down game film to see who will be most effective at each position. Tell us what it's like to be involved in the gameplan.

Well, you see, the guys who they choose to start suck and the guys who come in in relief are better.

He was buttcheeks from the start of the season, though…

Southern miss. North Alabama.

Those are the only teams that allowed FSU to score more points than LSU’s defense did in week 1.

This past weekend my buddy and I were sitting in TS and watching aTm run down our throats all first half and we both remarked a couple times on goal line stands why didnt we just send everybody, hell, they were going to score anyway.
So at one point early in the second half we were defending a 3rd and short and I noticed we had 9 men at the line or within a yard and we did send everybody and they still got the first down but hell I told my friend that I didnt even mind because we tried something else...

Me too, he gave little to no actual effort play after play. His signature move is pushing someone down and if that doesn't work, he gives up. No technique or effort equals a bad player, no matter how good he looks getting off the bus.

You have to blame coaching for not only continuing to play him, but also for not holding him accountable. Seemed to happen a lot on the D, bad technique all around.

Can't blame it on lack of talent or one position coach being missing. This is on House.
