re: I hate saying a bowl win gives us 10 wins. 10 REGULAR SEASON wins is the bar at LSU.

The bar is lowered with Brian Kelly because he can talk the talk. But as he’s proven throughout his career he can’t win a big game
Man, we have some ignorant arse fans. We’ve got to be the most spoiled group of people in the country.
Which ‘big games’ this year did we lose? Please answer, I’m tryin to see something

You seem spoiled, selfish, and entitled. Come across as a guy who wouldn’t even watch LSU if it were a, say 5-7 type of season.
And we are a better program than all of them. And I'm a guy that's been an LSU fan for decades. Didn't miss many home games during Curley.
There are more games now, we are a better program now. We shouldn't had 10 wins THIS year. Ole Miss was an abomination. That performance, and not winning 10 regular season games, will be the types of things that keep us out of a 12-team playoff.
We recruit in the top 10, we pay our staff in the top 10, we should be in the top 10, which, at the end of the year, means 10 regular season wins. If you think that's unfair considering our in-state talent and football budget, then I think that is a loser mentality.

I don't agree with his indictment on Brian Kelly not being able to win big games.
But to play Devil's Advocate, Ole Miss was a top 10 team and we absolutely fricking blew that game.

The bar has moved post Dinardo.
In the 24 seasons since Dinardo left LSU, LSU has had 8 ten-win regular seasons. That's a third of the time. Does it really count as a bar if you usually don't reach it?

This response is disingenuous.

Do you not think the bar at LSU should be 10 regular season wins in a 12 game regular season?
I think that's a childish way to look at it. I want to see LSU go undefeated, but I only expect to be entertained.
As far as bars go, I just don't think they should close at 2.

It’s not a loser’s mentality, it’s fricking reality. At the end of the year, only one team can hoist the trophy. That’s it. If you’re the type of person who only accepts nattys as success, then you’re going to be a miserable individual.
I prefer to change my line of thinking. We had a historically bad defense this year, yet in spite of this, still have the possibility to win ten games AND have our QB win the Heisman.
So yea, the losses at bama, FSU, and ole miss were frustrating as hell, but I’m not willing to say that this whole season was a failure… that’s just how I look at things

I want LSU to go undefeated, I expect with our talent and football budget, to win 10 regular season games in a 12 game regular season.

Took Saban a couple to get it moving, but in last 20 years (19 seasons sans COVID shortened), we have done it almost half the time.

I agree with this

Neither do I. And even if he was 0-738 in ‘big games’ at ND, he deserves a fresh start here. We beat bama last year, was that not a big game? (Not directing this towards you)

Who is saying this is what they expect?

I never said the whole season was a failure.
Where are you getting these things? I'm saying I hate calling this a 10 win season. It's a 9 win season with some bright spots, obviously all on offense/Jayden.
I have just heard BK and LSU media people say "at LSU we want to win 10 games every year and we have a chance to do that in back-to-back years" (paraphrased)
We can be honest and say we missed our goal, in a list of other goals both achieved and not, of at least 10 regular season wins.

You didn’t directly say these things, I just used a little reading comprehension when you said this:
quote:
Haha idk man just saying it bothers me, don’t care who cares. Yay 10 win season******
Basically rolling your eyes because people are happy that we have a chance at winning ten games this year, then used this whole thread to say how we under perform based off all our off the field doings….

With that being said, the bar was set as "SECCG" or bust, and that is a fair metric, but not when you inherit a dumpster fire.
It really isn’t. 11-1 could leave you out of the SECCG
Yeah I think that is much more unrealistic than 10 regular season wins a year as an expectation.
Expectations drive behavior. There are scientific studies about this.

Basically what I’m saying is that you (and a TON of other people) should be eternally grateful that we aren’t MS state or Vandy or Arkansas who have NEVER won shite

Relative to this 1 goal for the season, amongst many others we did hit, that I said we didn't hit. That's the only thing I'm discussing. I hate moving the goalposts for this one goal.

I am very grateful we have a fun program to follow.

Winning 10+ games every year is not as automatic as some of you think.
Automatic? No, but 9 win seasons should be the slip up year, not the norm. How many years has the talking point been that all we need is a competent coach with all the advantages LSU has?
We now have a competent coach and are paying him like a top 4-5 coach in the country.

10 REGULAR SEASON wins is the bar at LSU.
Something only 1 LSU coach (Miles, 6 times) has done more than once, has only been done once in the last 10 years (2019), Only 8 times in the last 23 years (since the 12 game seasons began) and only 10 times in LSU history is the bar?
1908 Edgar Wingard 10-0 no bowl game (we need to claim this )
1958 Paul Dietzel 11–0 W Sugar Bowl 10-0 Regular season
Since the twelve game seasons started.
2003 Nick Saban 13–1 11-1 Regular Season
2005 Les Miles 11–2 10-2 Regular Season
2006 Les Miles 11–2 10-2 Regular Season
2007 Les Miles 12–2 10-2 Regular Season
2010 Les Miles 11–2 10-2 Regular Season
2011 Les Miles 13–1 12-0 Regular Season
2012 Les Miles 10–3 10-2 Regular Season
2019 Ed Orgeron 15–0 12-0 Regular Season
quote:
He and the LSU media keep chirping about "possibly having back to back 10 win seasons"
Something Saban didn't do in 4 seasons with 12 regular season games. Orgeron did it with Burrow. Les did it a lot though.

We were not close to a top 10 program when Kelly took the job. Top 10 programs in real-time don’t go 11-12 over two seasons. The rest of the college football world didn’t sit still while O completely fricked us over, and there’s no magic wand to instantly reset it.
We are obviously trying hard to get back there, but Top 10 is just objectively false currently. We’re probably back to between 10-15 now, but projecting your expectations based on the past from 2019 and before- before NIL and the full impact of the Portal- is irrelevant.
I think we get back to the Top 10 in the next year or two, but only if the defensive staff is fixed, and then recruiting with that.

I understand what your saying but we are 9-3 with our 3 losses coming against 3 teams currently top 11 in the country. Losing games are disappointing but being where we are with no defense is pretty damn impressive, especially with a win against Mizzou
