Simplest answer. DeSantis bought into the GOPe line that was ever so helpful in getting McCain, Romney and JEB! elected.

Plus, I'm 100% certain that he was told Trump would damage the GOP brand beyond repair, so he HAD to run now. Also, by 2028, people would have forgotten about his 2020 era covid policies while he was governor.

The irony that is Ron’s base is bizarre. The lack of self awareness to understand that they are now the fringe, and have made it that way, has been interesting to watch unfold.

As for the poster earlier stating that the insurance crisis is a weak point for DeSantis, it is actually worse in California and, in fact, Florida addressed it and should have relief in a couple of years after the new laws have a chance to tame the plaintiff lawyers and vexatious litigation.

The problem is that I just do not see this debate being must watch TV. I think everyone knows that california is a crap hole being run into the ground and they tried to recall their governor but, the problem is, not one single democrat cares.

I think it will be interesting in that both are laying out the case for the model for America: the Red State Model and the Blue State Model. Which one should be the model for America and I just can't believe the majority of Americans think the California model is the way forward given the state of the situation there. California is the greatest state in the country and just look at what has happened after years of unchecked Democrat rule.

Newsom is slick I will give him that but he is nothing more than a product of the California Democrat Party machine.....and he isn't that smart...like isn't he legit dyslexic? DeSantis has way more experience both as an executive and as member of Congress who was on some of them most influential House committees and a Harvard trained legal mind. I don't expect Gavin to fold but to say Ron is going to get worked by Newsome is laughable.
